Yeah, someone is working overtime trying to pass the buck here
It's too simplistic to say "non EU countries" but the EU has a lot of trade deals with "non EU countries" that we no longer benefit from..
There's also the impact that 5 years of blundering around, and brinksmanship, lies and threats has to your global reputation, another consequence of Brexit that might affect trade with "Non EU countries"
And he himself talks about the stagnation of financial services, and that's largely because it's drip, drip, dripping away to the EU, negating growth..

It's also very hard to get accurate numbers at the moment due to everything else which has been going on since 2019. The UK still has not implemented its trade border for imports yet.

Who would have thought that not erecting trade barriers would be beneficial.

Yeah it’ll definitely make a few of them panic.
At least Starmer will be leaving a nice legacy behind by actually getting rid of the blonde nonce
Regardless I don’t think he’s getting fined anyway, it’s no where near as comparable to what happened in Downing Street.
I have impure thoughts about Lisa Nandy
To be honest I'm still not entirely sure what Starmer is supposedly guilty of?
They had been working all day then ordered food at the end for 15 odd people. Food with colleagues was within the rules at that time if I remember correctly, so it seems to be purely because he had a beer that it's being equated to a party?

He’s guilty of nothing, it’s a smear campaign by the right wing media to deflect away from their shoddy leader they helped campaign for. We live in a smelly country.
I think Nandy is a proper lefty and what Labour stands for though which is why I want her to replace him if he does go.
Nandy is centre left like Starmer, there's not a lot between them on major policy

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Given that EU trade borders for imports are up and very much in force, its a facking thick as pigshiiiit policy if you ignore the real reason they haven’t proceeded, namely public backlash when they see what the border will mean for consumers.
For UK SMEs though, it’s devastating. We’re wiping the floor on the continent with our UK retail competitors because nobody is buying UK retail exports. And in the meantime, we’ve been forced to bin all of our UK suppliers due to the cost of importing from the UK.
So:
EU-based manufacturers/wholesalers exporting to UK: net gains
EU-based retailers competing on the continent with exporting UK retailers: net gains
EU-based retailers exporting to UK: no change
UK-based manufacturers/wholesalers exporting to EU: net losses
UK-based retailers competing in the UK with exporting EU retailers: net losses (due to increased input costs vs competitors)
UK-based retailers exporting to EU: facked
Complete and utter shiiiitshow which, again, just looks like ill thought out self sabotage.
NEW: Starmer to make a statement on the Durham police investigation at 4pm. Understand he will offer his resignation if issued with a FPN. His team adamant he’ll be cleared & this an attempt to draw line between Starmer & Johnson that not all politicians are the same
I’m so proud of Keith.
It's a very cagey strategy from the Tories, beer/Keirgate has kept many of the negative stories about this govt out of the limelight or certainly less focused on but again Starmer has found a way to differentiate himself from Johnson
Boris and co again doing what they can to survive another day and acting like it's not all waiting to catch up to them
If Keir resigns doesn’t it make Boris look worse that he didn’t resign? So could be good if he does go
Could just be my biases but it does seem like when stuff like this happens the left is held to a higher standard than the right.
Like the narrative right now seems to be Starmer should go because he said Boris should, but everyone appears to have given up on Boris actually going.
The fact the government has blood on its hands in regard to releasing the elderly into care homes (knowing of the risk of asymptomatic transmission) IMO should have seen heads roll. And been far more prevalent in the news coverage.
