OnlyFans paid $148m in UK corporation tax last year, according to its new accounts, enough to cover the cost of educating 15,000 British schoolchildren.

One of the UK's biggest online media success stories but, er, it won't be getting a ministerial visit anytime soon.

The UK's economy has stagnated since 2008.

In terms of GDP per capita - economic output divided by the number of people in a country - we've actually gone backwards.

A short thread on the countries that the UK was richer than in 2007, but which have since overtaken us...

https://x.com/sam_bidwell/status/1832062722412015803?s=46&t=bPTrpdgNggCdz9igvhmVyw

Look at all of those countries that have overtaken us, and you wonder why we’re crumbling with public services and infrastructure around us.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Austerity.

A crime against growth. A crime against employment. A crime against investment. A crime against infrastructure. A crime against public health.

And inexplicably, against the advice of academia, against the advice of almost all of the world’s leading economists on *both sides* of the political spectrum, against the latest advice of even the world’s leading proponents of ordoliberal economics in the IMF and World Bank, against all evidence, it’s happening again.

It’s facking monumentally retaaarded, I have no idea why they’re doing it, and it is going to cost lives across Britain’s most vulnerable communities, but fack Reeves, fack Starmer, fack them absolutely to oblivion.

Red Tories. Get in the facking bin you fraud scuuum.

The FAs new interim football manager who is 'foreign' (hes born in Brum but played over 40 times for the ROI) has unbelieveably told the UK press that he can't bring himself to sing the British National Anthem before the game tonight. What an idiot for telling them that. Of all the things he could have talked about on his first game.

I can see that this is going to dominate the papers tomorrow morning especially if things dont go well.

Have you actually read what he said? It doesn’t look like you have because it’s nothing like what you seem to think, looks like you’ve been drawn in by the misleading headlines.

He’s never sang any anthem because he’d rather focus his mind on the game ahead and finds the anthem a distraction. He went on to say that he fully respects the anthems. It’s a complete non story.

Carsley said: "This is something that I always struggled with when I was playing for Ireland.

"The gap between your warm-up, your coming on to the pitch and the delay with the anthems. So it's something that I have never done.

"I was always really focused on the game and my first actions of the game. I really found that in that period I was wary about my mind wandering off.

"I was really focused on the football and I have taken that in to coaching."

Carsley added that he never sang the national anthem during his three years as manager of the England Under-21s before stepping up to the senior side on an interim basis.

The former Derby County and Everton midfielder said that during the anthems he prefers to be "thinking about how the opposition are going to set up and our first actions within the game".

He added: "I fully respect both anthems and understand how much they mean to both countries. It's something I am really respectful of."

Just popped over to the DM website…

“Next step is to take a knee, and after that a solemn fist in the air. We have seen this woke opera play out countless times.”

“England needs to get a grip. The place is loaded with people who don’t like the country and/or establishment. It’s no wonder it’s on a downward spiral. There’s no national pride in England and tbh it’s not even allowed.”

It’s not even political FFS, it’s purely to do with focusing on the game, the very thing that they’re there for
