however good eng have played in certain sessions, defeats by 10wickets and over 100 runs are not close games, keep hearing that eng were in the game in parts when in reality they were not, yes aus were bowled out for 120 or so but they gave themselves that safety netting with how they performed the majority of the game
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This. Some pundits really are clutching at straws but others have given England the criticism they deserve - fact is that in 10 days of ashes cricket, only one day has been won by england. That general set of performances doesnt win test matches, and rarely makes them competitive.

anoher off the pitch farce.

what on earth is going on.

england vs england this time.

prob another story blown out of proportion but this is shambolical.

Lack of respect by duckett to a senior player (Anderson)

posted on 10/12/17

Doesn't sound like what Duckett did was all that bad, though I'm sure the England management could have done without it.

Compared to a head butt and a night out assault this is nothing. Because it is Duckett he will get the book thrown at him.

Been a horrible time for English cricketers. You have one guy (Shiv Thakor) fired because he was flashing his little'pecker in public and another is going down for rape.

the reporting of all these on tour 'incidents' is pretty pathetic IMO. I haven't seen any context to the latest one with duckett - was it a drinking game, a prank, a hissy fit, how did jimmy take it..? - but everyone has said that the bairstow thing was not malicious or aggressive and nobody was upset at the time.

this really just reflects on modern media and social media and the desperate desire to whip everything up into a major scandal. to try to connect and compare duckett's messing around with stokes' potentially serious criminal offence incident is ridiculous.

the greats from past teams and eras would be torn to shreds in this current climate, as the stuff that is causing such fake shock and outrage during the current tour is tame in comparison with tales from botham and gower's, or boon and hughes' times.

no doubt england cricket team pr is badly damaged

So ben has been banned from the lions tour completely. And then we have stokes selected for ODIs. I wonder how the England management make these decisions.

One has not been punished at all for what I would class as a criminal activity and the other has been sent home for pouring alcohol on what might have been a prank.

Pretty ridiculous isn't it? They've use Duckett to make an example of that they've had enough of stories coming out whilst the players are out drinking. I feel sorry for the guy, a year ago he was opening for England and probably could have been pretty handy on these wickets. Oh well.

As regards criminality the Stokes matter is pending with the CPS so the ECB's hands are tied at the moment. Though if the case was kicked out by the CPS I'd expect Stokes to go straight into the squad with the ECB possibly saying that he's missed a few matches already.

I thought the Duckett punishment was harsh though I'm told that he has had previous issues.

The media around this series is getting a bit tedious with Tim Paine saying that Australia will remind England of the Duckett issue when they're sledging.

Why not come out and say "Cook is batting like trash, we'll remind him of that, the rest of the line up is fragile, we'll remind them of that". Not "The Duckett thing will come up". He's not even in the squad so who cares?

Jimmy, you like to give out some chirp when playing, give some out in the media and get the side fired up!

Another top order wobble with Cook failing again. I'm not going to question his place in the side but he's really let us down so far in this series. Well done to Stoneman but it's frustrating that he didn't kick on when passing 50. Vince, well you Vinced it again at a poor time to get out. Frustrating dismissal for Root but it happens.

Really good response from Malan and Bairstow with a partnership of 99*. We're still in a precarious position at 4 down with only 230 on the board but I'd been impressed with Malan prior to this test. The Aussies are bowling seriously fast too.

England will win this test if they post 370 plus total in the first innings of this test which is looking likely.

Lovely from Bairstow and Malan, really great stuff and have taken advantage whilst the ball is old and soft, get to close with only 4 down and we're in a good position

Can't afford a collapse,

Been impressed with Stoneman and Malan who had question marks over their head whilst Cook and Root were supposed to be our go to guys not under pressure.

posted on 14/12/17

Yep, the new guys deserve a lot of credit for the way they've applied themselves in this series especially with the failures of the more senior players. Stoneman has always got himself in and the only disappointing thing for him is he hasn't kicked on for a century yet. Malan has dug in and for the first time looks like he's finding his range in scoring, going a long at a nice run rate.

50 for Bairstow. Good knock under pressure.

New ball available but not taken straight away, taken next over and immediately a chance dropped. Oof, that would have been a kick in the teeth and meant a real chance for Australia to take some late wickets in the day.

posted on 14/12/17

Calls to move Malan to 3... Leave him where he is, let him settle in the side and if he settles in at 5 then that's 1 less spot in the batting line up to fill next summer.

Excellent innings from Malan. He's looked like a proper test match batsman since coming into the side.

As much as i hate KP, it seems that he was right when he advocated for Malan to be picked back in the summer

Well done Dawid Malan, terrific knock in the context of the match, the series and for his own position in the team.

Bairstow is scoring incredibly fast.

His strike rate is just over 50, isn't that pretty normal for him?

The move for Bairstow should have been done after Brisbane, plays better up the order and easily our second best batsman behind Root (if he turns up)

Hate KP the person, but as a batsman he's in my all time top 5
