Absolute rubbish, it may be part of the rules, but if a batsman is not capable, then he shouldn’t get special treatment, this is the Ashes, not a Sunday under 5s game.

Anderson seems like such a spoilt child when he goes abroad, complaining about pitches last year too, what does he expect? You are abroad, that’s what happens.

At just 1 down England seem resigned to losing the ashes. Very poor body language coming from them. This Stokes saga is not helping either.

can the batsmen not just duck under the delivery? it's the stupid attempts at hook/pull shots that got them out. Leave the ball I'm sure the Aussies will figure it out eventually that they won't be getting cheap wickets that way.

but no I don't think it was dangerous, and I'm sure the English attack would do the same if they had that level of pace

Agree with JT - It's the Ashes...its the oldest cricketing rivalry in the world.

It's embarassing reading comments like that..especially from Anderson

Think we'll bounce back in Adelaide and will use the negative press as motivation. I recall the Windies and South Africa being ruthlessly criticised by the media after first test losses and bouncing back with a win in the next test.

Hopefully we'll put the idea of Stokes coming back into the side to bed. We have to do this without him and we showed enough in the first test that we can compete. Just need to continue compete throughout the test.

What do you think Australia's reaction is going to be after Anderson's comments??? I Don't think he done the England tail any favours imo

After the 1st test, I see nothing but a 5 - thrashing. England were pathetic, add to that Beefy's comments about a very weak Australia batting side...what does that mean for England's?

Root getting caught LBW - he needs to work on that. Goes across far too much
Cook - outside off has been a thorn in his batting for a long time.

If Stokes doesent make a return and hit the ground running, it's going to be a depressing winter for England

What do they practice in the nets? It`s quiet easy to fire up the bowling machine to 90mph and pitch it short. They must have been expecting a peppering and have had months to prepare. If only we had a genuine quick to give them some back.

It’s a part and parcel of the game and Anderson sounds not only bitter but very idiotic making comments like that. I’m no Aussie fan but you have to commend their bowlers for having a plan and sticking to it - it’s not their fault England’s batsmen fell flat into it. If a bowler wants to bowl 6 bouncers in an over, I see no issue with this unless you’re playing limited over Cricket. Dealing with the quick short stuff is a skill, just ask Boycott.

However one thing that Anderson was right on is the off field distractions are getting in the way of what is actually happening on the field. From Stokes’ thuggery to Bairstow and Bancroft’s little run, it is taking away from what should be a competitive and close fought series. However unless England fix up quickly in Adelaide, it will be anything but another embarassment down under.

Plz be kind to Uncle Andy!

Actually he is scared for his behind and knows pretty soon that it will be torn apart by strong Aussies! I can’t believe folks here and someone in cricinfo put englund da favs before the start..

Now my prediction and mark my words: englund will be ripped heavily in remaining matches. No chance for their comeback.. U may argue whatever or get ur knickers twisted but can’t hide da reality folks!

"If a bowler wants to bowl 6 bouncers in an over, I see no issue with this unless you’re playing limited over Cricket."

And as Jonathan Agnew said, the 3 seamers aren't going to be able to bowl over after over of short pitched stuff. It'll knacker them out and if you keep ducking or swaying out the way then they'll stop that plan pretty quickly knowing it's a waste of energy.

I hope although in no way believe England are practicing like hell to deal with the short pitched stuff they're bound to get a lot of.
