I managed to get tickets for the Cup match, 60 something quid for the three of us isn’t all that bad thanks to Mel. Got Hull tickets too so won’t be doing too much match thread participating for the foreseeable.

It doesn’t seem very long ago that Wassa was ridiculing anybody on here who had predicted a top six finish for Derby this season. Now we can reasonably say we have a shot, just a shot mind you, at second place, and anything outside top six would now feel like a disappointment. It’s all come as a bit of a surprise, the gradual accumulation of points and now the performances starting to catch up with the results.

Will the age of the team catch up with us in the second half of the season? Doesn’t look likely. In most positions we have very good cover. Keogh and Carson are the two players who we would really struggle to cope with were they to get a long injury. Maybe in the window some loanee to provide a bit of magic off the bench in tight games, or some genuine pace. Otherwise just ditch as much deadwood as possible and steady as she goes.

Mustnt forget to dispatch Millwall of course. Up and at ‘em, early goal and it’s Happy Christmas.

Why?

Chief Kief think we need cover for Deadly
A Baby Nuge
and a Gary Teale

Plus a lot of ‘surplus to requirements’ wood shifted on.

Being the hard nosed unsentimental capitalist that I am I would entertain handsome offers for Keogh and Vydra.

Decent offers for BJ or Y-man.

Offers for Shackell, Anya (although still think he has something to give and with his pace and a bit of GR coaching could be useful) not sure if there’s a financial thing with him or not, Bent (amazing goal scorer n nice bloke but isn’t quite the offside trap beating, runner I think GR is looking for, maybe if Winnall went back or Vydra goes for 20 million).

Butters Bye.

Money in the bank, cover already there, a few spots for some academy cameos if injuries hit, profits up, wage bill down and promotion. Job’s a good un.

Think we should hold onto Chrissy M think he offers us something different up front to all the other front fours whoever they maybe.

No idea what you mean young Ang. This is about not letting the Hebling down and ensuring the succession of Clan Heb

Just thinking about the Bryson issue. Rowett was clearly enormously peed off that Bryson was allowed to leave without Kief being confirmed but he played the whole thing down and just got on with it. In came Ledley and upwards and onwards we have gone. We have had managers who would have gleefully seized upon it as an excuse for any subsequent adversity. Similarly I have no doubt there were several players who Rowett would have been quite happy to say goodbye to in August but who he was unable to shift and who have been important players in the first half of the season. We have ourselves a manager here with a very good head on his shoulders. Small wonder he told Forest to get lost when they tried to appoint him.

When we played QPR at Wembley they were on average 5 1/2 years older than Derby players and about the same as our average age now. Having experienced players was of some benefit in the play off final but not in the Premier league. If we are promoted many of the experienced players will need replacing.

Spart unless we want to break our own record for least points its hardly rocket science to know that we will need to strengthen in mostg areas, which will mean replacing some of the experienced players. However, if we do get promoted I don't think Rowett will rush into things.

Pub on Christmas Day?

posted on 22/12/17

My eldest has just told me he is working in a pub from 11 till 7 on Christmas Day, potwashing. Messed up Christmas dinner plans somewhat. I suppose it is inevitable that I will have a pint dropping him off or picking him up, or both. I don't know when we are going to fit in charades.

Funnily enough, so is middle-born. Means I'll have to walk up, imbibe, then walk her back home - hopefully.
