More likely you'll sell him at a profit once he's back to full fitness and played a few games. Conte even hinted as much by labelling him as an investment and a prospect.

It's a good signing financially for Chelsea, but I wouldn't count on him making a significant impact.

As you say Superb, welcome Ross,I think that he just might set out to prove a few people wrong, in their impressions of him,and this can only be to Chelseas benefit.
A shrewd buy in my opinion.

Heard a lot of people say this today. Time will tell. Very few people thought that a certain Frank Lampard would make much of a significant impact at Chelsea when we signed him from West Ham.

I'll support Barkley and wish him the best, but...
Leon Goretzka is younger, much better, more versatile, and was available for a similar price in all likelihood (contract runs out in June). To me, this is one of those signings where we say "good business" instead of "good player," and I’m not particularly comfortable with that.

Don't even think it's good business. He won't budge Hazard, Willan or Pedro anytime soon and we're increasingly utilizing the 3-5-1-1 so his value won't increase suddenly. If we are gunna sell him on for a quick buck, which I could at least see the sense in conceptually, it's gunna have to be within 18 months.

His value has already increased. Barkley on a 5 year contract is valued significantly higher than Barkley on a 6 month contract.

But he's gunna seriously struggle to get games which will shot it down now he's 25. As I said, within 18 months and we should be fine. Beyond that, he either shocks the hell out of it by fulfilling this potential we're told he has or he's in the loan army.

Hmm well at £15m he is well worth the punt.

We signed Drinkwater for £35m with one year on his contract. If Barkley plays 10+ games for us and does a decent job his value is £40m minimum. That is the reality of this market.

100% agree on this point. I don't want us to turn into the next Arsenal - solely focused on getting the best bargain rather than the best player to improve our team.

It could, we might find ourselves in a position where a mid-table PL club take the punt in a few years, but he'll have to put in more than decent performances for that to happened and I'm pessimistic right now.

Don’t expect him to play at all and be on loan next season abroad where we will eventually sell him for 25m he’s not bought for the team superb
