Whilst the ref cannot under any circumstances do that, I think he’s just had one of those moments.

The Red Most is something else. Normally Jon Moss giving out another red card because he didn’t like the look of a player and the crowd shouted a bit louder than normal.

You hate referees. We get it. But do you have to infect almost every thread with the same thing over and over again?

Morning Bs,If a player did that to a ref he would get a very long ban and quite rightly so,
The ref here deserves a long ban in the least,he could have injured the player.
I actually thought this was an article about refs behaviour.
I don't hate refs , have praised some on here,just don't like any cheating in the game whatsoever.
Players do it and some get punished,sadly some refs cheat , and no action is taken,
Don't like the double standards in the game,and too many matches being decided by dishonest officials.
There is no arguement that they get worse season after season.

Ok that’s a measured response Thorney fair enough. But what annoys me a tad is that there is a difference between making mistakes and blatantly cheating

Referees have nothing to gain by not awarding a stonewall penalty or mistakenly sending someone off unless you are implying they are betting on the match. When you cheat (eg dive) you are breaking the rules for a clear benefit.

This is no way the same as referees making major mistakes because they aren’t good enough (eg moss)

The ref's 45 and was due to retire at the end of the season. It's now likely that he won't officiate another game.

Ending your career on this sort of note is punishment enough, imo. Unless, of course, he's a crafty old sod and did it to set up a few interviews on the back of the controversy with an eye to starting a career in the media...

By the way, fwiw Hristo Stoichkov once stamped on a ref in a supercup clasico. He initially got 6 months, later reduced to just 2 months plus 2 games.

In all, he missed 11 matches.

I think it’s more a case of refs sometimes ‘cheating teams out of 3 points’ and of course that is a catchphrase to mean costing them something of value, but yes, in the majority of cases it relates to incompetence as opposed to activity trying to ‘cheat’.

There are some cases where refs actively (just my opinion) try to even up a game or are affected by past experiences, the crowd, managers etc and make decisions that, either in the moment or certainly afterwards, I’m sure they know were not unbiased and objective. This probably falls under the heading of ‘cheating’ a little more but again, is probably something that is close to but not quite a synonym of it (I guess bus depends on your absolute definition for ‘cheating’ and how much it links to personal benefit.

Irrelevant of all of this, it doesn’t stop this video clip being amazing.
