I haven't been a ST holder at Spurs for 7 years because we win things. I do at because of a sense of belonging and love for Spurs. Nothing will change if we win a trophy.
_____________

Now try and look at it from a players point of view.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Why? The point of this is whether fans will be happy if he is sold? Why should I look at it from Tobys point of view? I will support Spurs after Toby leaves so his "point of view" is irrelevant compared to the view of the club that I supoort.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Ledders is advocating giving them all another £20 grand a week, so this time next year, they will want another £20 grand a week, and the year after another £20 grand a week.

Why should the club be held hostage to players over their ridiculous wage demands. If Spurs make a real stand, I would for one as they say be Over the Moon, that finally a club has the guts to stand up to greedy players once and for all.

The club will be here long after Toby or Rose or whoever has retired.

Not lecturing anyone, or telling how to run your Club.

Just giving an opinion.

I have no problem with Spurs and who I support has no baring on it, you either agree with my points or you don't; and you don't have to read it, never mind reply to it.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

No that isn’t the point of this. The point of this is the club progressing and that selling a key player will be “bad news” as the OP put it.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

We have progressed well so far with the same rules in place

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Doesn’t mean it’ll continue that way.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Doesn't mean it won't either

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok then in that case the whole world should keep on doing what they’re doing

----------------------------------------------------------------------

I know you are trying to be clever but actually yes, some parts of the world should carry on, others should change. IMO we are heading in the right direction with what we are doing and should continue down the same path. If your opinion is different then fair enough. Not every club needs to change.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Wrong. You think you know I am trying to be clever.

Your comment was about the club I have supported for 60 years, so why would I not read it, and then not give an opinion on it?

I thought the end of the world for Spurs came when they sold Bale.

The stance taken by some spurs fans is laudable, however replacing your best players is never easy.

Personally I think over the next three years you may lose a good few of your best players unless Levy adapts his wage structure.

Let's see if your still keen to back him when Poch and your best players leave. Walker walked, Rose has been openly critical and Toby is reported to have reached an impasse in his contract negotiations.

Liverpool are in a similar boat in someways but we are willing to push the boat out a little further in terms of transfer fee and wages. If your not careful you could have an exodus on your hands and /or an unhappy dressing room of players.

Starting to get like when walker was leaving on here. Posters trying to justify it with a excuses.

When the reality is we are/would be losing a world class CB with inferior players as his replacement.

Our players tomorrow will be watching Walker potentially pick up 1 of his 2 trophies he’ll be winning this season in his first season away from us.

If you think that won’t resonate with our players like Kane & Eriksen for example then you are deluded.

Here’s hoping we come to some sort off compromise and he stays
----------------------------------------------------------------------

This is it. Walker’s decision to leave is being vindicated whether we like to admit it or not. We surely don’t want a situation where more and more of our players feel that they need to do the same.

We won`t be winning anything if we keep selling our `finished article` players and replacing them with promising youngsters. Every successful team has proven players throughout their team with a sprinkling of young up and coming talent, not the other way around.

It is naive to think selling Toby and expecting Sanchez and Foyth to be at the same levels in the next couple of seasons, those two are both young and still learning their trade.

It is up to Levy to take us to the next level and keep our key players happy.

I am in no doubt we can afford to raise our wage bill significantly (new stadium or no new stadium) if we really want to, increased revenues on the horizon, increased sponsorship, stadium naming rights and record TV deals etc.

On revenues we are the 11th or 12th biggest club in Europe, and soon to enter the top 10..... it`s time we starting acting like it imo.

The only top player spurs have sold so far is Bale and he hasn't exactly excelled in the same way since leaving.

posted on 24/2/18

I’m not fussed if we sell Toby since we have Sanchez, Toby seems to pick up injuries and will get worse as he gets older, if we can get massive money for him and push Foyth forward or drop Dier back.

Be a shame if he leaves but we are a well run club and we ain’t doing too badly.

Football has been ruined by money for years and it will get worse.

When a normal bloke can’t afford to take his 2 kids to games then something is wrong.

I don’t blame the players for asking for big money as they know if they’re good enough some club will pay it.

Toby has been outstanding for us and if he leaves then so be it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Fans could be let in for free, and you could still pay TA £150,000.00 a week.

Spurs are a well run Club is an odd statement tbh, well run to what end? For what purpose? What is the pount of Spurs?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This kind of moronic statement is pretty much what’s wrong with football today. Fans who see a club who doesn’t win trophies regularly as “pointless”. Well that makes about 88 clubs in England pointless then. However the millions of fans who go and watch them every week hardly regard it as pointless. Pathetic comment

Part of what I love about Spurs is that we have always been about more than buying trophies. We have always played attacking football under progressive managers. We have always had strong roots in the local community. We have always had an English core of players who contribute to the national team.

Pundits and other fans think that paying players £200k a week and winning the Champions League is the be all and end all. It is very, very rarely mentioned how Spurs are the only side in the country competing at the very top on a reasonable wage bill with a strong English core of players.

I badly want Toby to stay, but regardless of whether he does or not I will always be proud of the way in which Spurs are trying to achieve things. If the journey results in trophies then brilliant, but I'd rather do it this way and fall just short than buy the league like Chelsea or City. Even failure has an echo of glory and all that

Toby is a fantastic player and hopefully stays but if it's true that he is demanding £150k and we are offering £110k but the offer is being refused then I'm alright with him leaving.

If you're company doesn't pay you the salary that you demand and you can guarantee that somewhere else then so be it. I don't think Spurs should have to change their wage structure if they're not comfortable with it.

I think it's already progressed. We have more players near the £100k mark than we've done before. Let's not forget that only a few clubs in the world can offer their player's salary of £200k and beyond.

There will always be talent out there happy with a measly £90-110k a week. Whether Toby goes or stays I think we should look at De Ligt from Ajax, another fantastic player who would be able to partner Sanchez.

De Ligt could not partner Sanchez at this time. Both of them too inexperienced.

In all of this on going discussion of Toby Alderweireld's salary demands, I have not seen a single word from the player himself.
Pochettino is on record a few days ago as saying he himself was not involved in these negotiations. Yes, Poch washed his hands of it!
So something is going on in Levy's office about something.
Personally I do not think Toby would be silly enough to demand a higher pay than Harry Kane is getting. But who knows?
He is 28 and he may think he can get what he wants elsewhere. Or it may all be Levy propaganda and lies.
Others say he has been injured and has lowered his value as a result.

One thing is for sure, the team is best with the CB pair of Vertonghen and Alderwiereld.
I have said this before: I think we had a marginally stronger team last season.

He does not want out. He is said to want a higher salary than Levy is willing to pay.
But the player has said nothing.
Nobody on the outside knows what is going on.

Hopefully Toby and the club can meet in the middle. I understand it’s importabt to work thin our means but st the same time we won’t find a better defender elsewhere. Need to tie him down so that when we decide we may want to move him on, he’s 32 plus and his best days are behind him

posted on 24/2/18

If we were to increase our 25-Man senior squads wages by an average of 20k a player, that equates to £26m a year. Now let’s be honest, they don’t all deserve a raise so the whole idea that they’ll all come knocking on the door demanding a pay rise isn’t necessarily true, so we would have some room to manoeuvre with some of the better players. It’s a starting point and is a gradual move towards paying what some of our players deserve in truth - a middle ground that some of our fans on here don’t seem to think exists.
