"Laurie (Dalrymple, Wolves' managing director) told me that the maximum capacity may be 50,000. I even asked him can we have a bigger one like Real Madrid's! But it's hard because the position of the stadium, the university is behind us.
"But let's make some progress on the pitch first then when we feel we have a stable squad to compete in the Premier League we can immediately do something.
Imagine
It doesn't sound like Shi just wants to make up the numbers in the Premier League, not only stating that the ground needs to be bigger but the training ground too.
One things for sure, our owners are not lacking ambition.
Certainly a statement of ambition, but can anyone seriously see us needing an 80,000 seater stadium even if we were to fully realise that ambition?
50k would see us in the top 6 or 7 for club ground capacity in the country. If you look back at the recrds, even when we were the best in the land we rarely pulled in over 50, in fact some crowds were lower than we consistently get now. Different times I know but Wolverhampton is not Madrid or even Manchester or Newcastle.

Largest crowd ever at Old Trafford was Wolves!
Bigger than even Man Utd could attract, at their own stadium.
That's true Bute. Cup semi final wasn't it?
Maybe Jeff envisages 10s of thousands of his country men descending on Wolvo every other Saturday to cheer us on.

My understanding is that there were only 3 Chinese in that crowd, all in the Stretford End.
I think there would be enough of the indigenous population in the Wolves catchment area to warrant a stadium with the capacity of 50-100,000
Unless we are genuinely contending titles we would never command attendances near 50k
Do you reckon cinci.... if we were top 4 and in Europe we would easily fill 50k do you think Jeff just plucked that figure out of the sky.
Remember 10K2MK a few years back in league 1.

Believe it when i see it.
And no way we would 'easily' fill a 50k stadium every week and that is what matters, every week not just for a big game.

The potential fanbase is massive. All true Wolves fans realise that.
I think it’s important to realise that virtually no team fills its stadium every game. So building a stadium that holds 50,000 is about filling it sometimes not every game. If you fill a stadium every game, as we are doing at the moment then that doesn’t mean your ground is big enough it means you could sell more tickets if it was bigger. We have recently sold out for games against Norwich, QPR and Brentford. How many tickets could we have sold those days if we were playing Man Utd, Liverpool or Albion
Whist a stadium doesn't have to be filled every game it would be good to have a consistent level of attendance and not 50k for Chelsea followed by 35k for Bournemouth.
For the record i think somewhere around 45k would be about right(assuming we are to 'contend' top four) but talk of 100k is pretty ridiculous given clubs like Barcelona have wildly erratic attendances between 50k and 90k two weeks apart and they are as good as it gets.
The potential is huge at Wolves cinci, that's why fosun brought us.
https://www.expressandstar.com/sport/football/wolverhampton-wanderers-fc/2018/03/13/ambitious-jeff-shi-on-wolves-10-year-plan-everything-we-do-is-for-the-long-term/
So says every club.
Don't get me wrong, Wolves are a great club but everything is based on success and you only have to look at what other clubs have built to give you a more sensible total, no doubt Arsenal and man city would have an easier time filling 100k stadiums but yet built ones around 60k.
Ambition is one thing, reality is another. You only have to look back at when we were last in the Premier League and understand that unless you're in the top six and playing good football, there's no chance of us filling a stadium with 50,000. I believe our biggest gate was against Blackpool, not Man Utd, Liverpool or any of the big guns.
Granted, the standard of players is better and we are getting crowds consistently close to 30,000, but I really don't see us getting crowds of 50,000, as many of our games would be televised and that alone drops attendance figures.
So by all means extend Molineux when and if we can become an established Premier League side, but let's not get into the realms of fantasy just yet.
Wolfie Jeff wants us in champions league within 5 years and also says that every player is on wolves radar.

I think we do have big plans to be successful but the problem is there are already 6 clubs way way way ahead of the rest and they will not be easy to catch even before surpassing them.
that's the thing the established sides, wont let us just stroll in, it's gonna take a long time, don't quote Leicester it's an anomaly
exactly, what Leicester did has zero relevance to what we are hoping to do, we don't want to be a one season wonder.
I think we should wait until we're in the Premier League first Perton. I'd love to see us playing European football again, but what Jeff wants and what we can achieve are two separate things.
The bigger clubs won't just sit around and watch us build.
Good to see that club having ambition, and planning ahead. It wasn't long ago that Manchester City was a struggling club, and they went from strength to strength - look at them now. Will be good to upset the status quo. As Tino alludes, we could emulate the success of Leicester - they've shown it can be done.
Wolves will once again be amongst the elite of England.
Make your mind up, is it elite or Leicester?
