I can't see it either. We've not produced one outstanding player for ten or more years.

If Cummings is the best we can do up front we're in worse trouble than I thought.

He will score loads for Scotland in the Scottish Championship

Got go ditch the elderstatesmen and build a young squad.
A good pool of talent starting to come through we should run with it
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Really not sure about this "good pool of young talent" coming through. Who? KT, Robertson ... and? WAY too early to be going overboard about McTominay. We've NO quality CBs, RB or strikers ... that's a huge handicap to try to "compete" at International level. The gulf between young guys having a few decent SPFL games and then stepping up to International football is massive. We don't have nearly enough of a pool who are regularly competing in Europe at club level.
Would love the situation to be different, and Eck will have my full support while he's in the job, but I just can't see it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Callum Paterson has been a huge hit for Cardiff at RB, good threat in the box from corners too.
At CB we finally have a new crop of options who look to have more potential than the previous bunch. McCrorie, Bates, Hendry, McKenna
We have a chance especially in the Euro Qualifiers with more teams qualifying then the Nations League.
I'll hang my hat on us qualifying for 2020. We will do it

Was just going to say that-he’s been playing as more of a CM.
Don’t think we’ve got much choice up front, but Cummings is nowhere near international class. I know Griff is injured, so that limits it more.

Yeah, he's been playing in midfield. But he's played RB often enough. Robertson is the obvious LB. McKenna looks a good prospect at CB.
Well he played RB in the cup game I watched and is a natural RB so he solves that problem

Things my wife doesn't say to me for 5 points please.
Going into the qualifiers we could do with a new goalkeeping prospect, all the decent ones we have are well into their 30s. Nothing in it between Gordon, Marshall, McGregor so would expect Gordon to stay number 1.
LB's our strongest area with Robertson and Tierney as understudy.
CB Our experienced players are tried and failed, so I'd like to see us start the campaign with at least 2 of the 4 are from that younger group with potential. McCrorie and McKenna being the 2 with most imo, maybe even take Hendry as well and have Berra or Martin as the experienced head.
RB we only really have Paterson who's good. Anya can cover, Whittaker and Hutton are surely finished.
Centre mid I would expect it to be Armstrong, McGinn, McTominay then another 2 spots fought between Docherty, Shinnie, McGregor and McLean.
I'd take Christie as an option for 10.
Left wing Ryan Fraser and Murphy, keeping 1 in each squad for a dedicated left winger.
Right wing between Forrest, Philips, Burke, Ritchie and Snodgrass.
Forward, Griffiths supported by Martin, Cummings and McBurnie as required.
a line up like
GK Gordon
LB Robertson
CB Berra
CB McCrorie
RB Paterson
CM McTominay
CM McGinn / Armstrong (McGinn v tougher teams)
LW Fraser
AM Christie
RW Forrest
FW Griffiths
I'm feeling positive for Scotland.

RV ... Aye, I'm sure that Eck is going to pick Scotland teams that don't feature Tierney?! The guy most likely to be named captain? Aye, OK. He's already on record talking about the plans he has to accommodate both Robertson and KT in his teams.
Berra and Snodgrass have already been binned by Eck, so not sure how much of a future they'll have.
Can't see David Marshall being one of the 3 keepers either ... given he's now back up to McGregor at Hull, sitting 18th in the Championship.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Tierney is the second best LB so unless he plays CB or RB there's no room for him.
I wouldn't have him in a CB pairing of two, of 3 I would.
I haven't seen Eck talk about him so i'm not sure what his plans are but he shouldn't be guaranteed a start as second choice LB so not sure why he would get the captaincy.
Just because players aren't in his first squad does not mean they have been binned
Heard wee Strchan on Talksport last night refer to McLeish as "big clay face". I know they are good mates but that is hardly a term of endearment is it.
I'm sure McLeish will have plenty of things he could call wee Chesney McScroteface.
That might be one of them.
That wee pr!ck being another.
