Bay of Pigs, the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Kennedy assassination were the closest we came to WW3. However, what's going on at the moment isn't far behind. I do fear for what lies ahead. I hope it can all be de-escalated.

Boris Johnson said today that it feels like 1936 where appeasement is in the air. Is you all recall the WW2 history.

In 1937 Stanley Baldwin resigned as Prime Minister and Neville Chamberlain took over. Chamberlain pursued a policy of appeasement and rearmament. Chamberlain's reputation for appeasement rests in large measure on his negotiations with Hitler over Czechoslovakia in 1938.

It's safe to say the next world war is almost certainly going to be the third one...When exactly is a different matter. Like the second was different from the first, the third will also be different. The concept of tribes and nations is quite different in the internet connected age,out with the elite profiteers, I'd argue the sense of collective humanity amongst the man on the street is much higher.

People these days are more irate at their own governments than foreign nations and propaganda is not as effective as it once was.

Boris making right fool of himself, totally embarrassing

Johnson couldn't get the top job via his about turn on Brexit, so now he's trying to promote himself into being next in line by gobbing off about Russia every time there's a tv crew around.

See it for what it is.

I'm not a huge fan of russia and the same goes for many other countries. BUT and its a big but im also not blind to the national level propaganda that our political power brokers indulge in.

I don't mind the Russians either...just don't see what there is to gain by blaming them for everything. Every nation has their own interests and we can't expect everyone to want what we want/to be like us. (P.S. American here)

The UK and US are far better at respecting both property and human rights and we shouldn't lose sight of that. But this blood lust over the recent poisoning isn't healthy and would prefer everything to go through international organisations and arbitrators. Iraq WMD's should have taught us something and the people of the UK deserve that and should demand that of our elected representatives.

Russia and China are dictatorships but you can also say the West elites aren’t angels themselves they have caused more catastrophe than any dictatorship past or alive starting with phi by Iraq and Libya wars that keeps on creating ISIS.
