First time as well England have had a truly world class striker in Kane since Shearer
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Calling Shearer world class is a bit of a stretch. Done nothing of note at international level or even at European club football.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Top scorer at Euro 96.
UEFA Cup top scorer 04/05
Balon d'Or 3rd place
FIFA World Player of the Year Bronze Award.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

So he had a good 1996.

He failed to test himself at the very top level except for a few Uefa cup campaigns and little of note at international football.

Great premier league striker. Never world class.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Definitely did something of note at international level and at European Club football though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Europa league top scorer hardly makes you world class

posted on 24/3/18

Wasn't what he said though was it? He proved that he's done something of note at European level when you said he hasn't. You're wrong. Move on.

OP - do us a favour and show me one single person on this forum who needs to "pipe down" and has said that England are winning the World Cup, please?

It hasn't happened. Your article is a load of sheet. Please follow West Ham.

Is Joe Hart going to Russia?

Your point:
Done nothing of note at international level or even at European club football.

Truth:
He did.

Evidence provided.

He also scored regularly in the Champions League, and at international level. In both he had a 1 in 2 (give or take) goalscoring record.

Labelling someone World Class is a matter of opinion, but Manfrom actually defined the parameters for why he WASN'T World Class so he'll now move the goal posts to support his opinion.

England have a decent chance and should be reaching the last 8. Factor in they're overdue a decent tournament.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Fully agree with you here and maybe England can reach even more.

Another tournament, another chance.

OP

England probably won`t win the world cup, but there are so many over-hyped teams in the tournament, anything could happen.

The French have to be the most overhyped team on the planet. 2-0 up at home to Columbia last night, and were beaten 3-2. England had done that, everybody would have been slaughtering them.

Frankly this shaping up to be the poorest ever world cup, and the recent ones have been pretty bad.

If Portugal could win Euro 2016, an even worse team than the Greece side of Euro 2004 or Denmark of Euro '96 in my opinion, there's no reason for me to rule out England surprising the world.

This team for me doesn't seem as weighed down by past failures as the previous sides and the young players could be a real bonus in playing without fear.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You don't get the shock winners in the World Cup though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Germany in 1954 were humiliated 8-3 in a group game, and ended up the shock winners of the tournament.

England in 1966 were not expected to go much further than the Quarter Finals and won the tournament.

Very relevant examples sandy

England had home advantage and Germany won games 7-2, 4-1 and 6-1 in the 54 finals. May not have been favourites against Hungary in the final, but were obviously one of the strongest teams in it.

Neither were massive outsiders like a Denmark or Greece.

England need to find better quality at CB and CM, these are the weak areas of the team. We won`t be going deep into a tournament with Jordan Henderson passing the ball out of play half a dozen times in every game, that`s for sure.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And yet he consistently has the best passing stats for every team he plays for. Bitter Billy talking absolute crap once again.

England "look" like a side that "could and should" win the World cup.

Why do you put words in quotation marks like anyone has actually said them?

Let's be honest we have always been a QF team at best save for a few exceptional years when we did better and should have done better still. 1990 & 1998. Since 1998 we've been utter shyyte, overhyped by the media calling a few half-decent players "the golden generation" didn't help.
Best squad in my lifetime was 1970 whch was a lot better than we had in 1966 when we won exclisively due to the FIFA home bias.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So we’ve always been a quarter final team at best save a few tournaments. But we did utter shiiiiiite since 98 despite making three quarter finals.

Your ramblings make as much as moregreaves’.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Thats THREE out of EIGHT as expected and UTTER SHYYTE the other 5, I don't see much wrong with that prognosis bearing in mind the press hysteria and false optimism.

Well passing it 5 yards to his centre half or full back is bound to distort his stats

I know what I see with my own eyes, and that is Henderson who regularly passes the ball out of play the moment he tries a pass longer than 10 yards or passes it straight to the opposition.

But, I wouldn`t expect you to notice any of that, being that most Pool fans are unable to accept any sort of criticism of anything to do with Pool.

It shows how far England have declined, when we are faced with the misery of Horrenderson stinking up the central midfield.

Morespunk is one of those posters who on the odd occasion will post a relatively sensible, legible and coherent comment making you think, you know what maybe I've been a bit too harsh on this guy. Then out of nowhere, 20 articles full of complete shhht get published and we're all back to square one with the poor sod.
