Is that what happened to the Indians, Pakistanis etc. A five year ban for the whole team.

posted on 26/3/18

a whole country was humiliated for the actions of 3 individuals

this ausse team - the entire team and management planned to cheat.

not my words but the words of smith

it took pak 6 YEARS to get that respect back when pak became number 1 test ranked team in the world

10 years after the dream of late bob woolmer to make pak number one test ranked team.

how long for aussie - oh wait there is no humiliation etc

just a slap on the wrist a minot thing.

minor for who? white man

major for non white.

Grande. I think you are wrong. This isn't the end of it, à one match ban is the agreed punishment for ball tampering, but I'm sure much tougher punishment will follow by the ACB. There will be plenty of humiliation, quite correctly. I don't believe that he said the whole team and management knew, but that senior players did, who should be punished appropriately.
The Pakistani players deserved their punishment, so do the Australians.

i dont hate you manusince 52

i hate the system. it seems backward and outdated

those pakistan players that cheated deserved their punishment and paid the price for the punishment.

i fear these aussie players will not get that punishment and not get the same treatment those pak players got

that is what makes me sick.

I can’t see Smith because my picked for the next test he is free for. Have a feeling he won’t ever play for Aus again.

But the bowlers will have been in on the decision. More will fallI hope.

I hope they do get properly punished. Cheating in sport ruins it, who now thinks that the winners of the Tour de France deserve it. When I watch cricket I like to think its two teams giving it their best shot, and a beer after win or lose.

Smith will probably be banned for at least 2-3 series for Australia imo but it's abit rich of other teams taking the moral high ground.

Rubbing the ball with some tape albeit planned is pretty much the same as the team being instructed to throw the ball on the bounce on the used pitches.

cheating is cheating

regardless of whther is bribe money or betting or spot fixing or ball tampering.

as far as im concerned

anyone found guilty desrvres to be banned for 5 years not one match. (still cant believe some thick heads dont understand that - this comment is to the system - mainly ICC)

there is no place for cheating in our beautiful sport called cricket.

Some forms of cheating are more serious than others. Match-fixing is more serious than fake fielding. What Smith & co did was clearly wrong but talk of bans for 5 years or the like is way over the top, for me. 5 games seems more like it to me.

But to rough up the one side in that way is hit and miss.

Expect a long break for Smith.

IMO smith was too naive to come out and say they planned. Could have just ended up saying Bancroft made a mistake and the matter wouldn’t have spiralled this way. When Faf used zip to tamper the ball, he didn’t try and act a hero by saying he did it deliberately/planned. Just accepted it and end of the story. It would take a very long time for people to trust this aus team, and smith will almost certainly never be the same player after he comes from his ban(most likely 6month to 1 year, can never be the captain again

Manusince52,

I did not justify it at all. I said I’m not going to act like they are the first to do it. I hate to break it to you, but People tamper all the time even you don’t notice Country cricketers have mentioned countless times that they tampered throughout their career (after retirement of course).

I do think a 1 game ban is pathetic and there has been nowhere near the amount of negative coverage that other teams have got for being naughty.

I consider ball tampering similar to diving in football. I don’t think a player should be banned 5 years for saying I planned to dive and get a penalty.

It's Smith saying a "leadership group" planned it that has caused the big fuss, though presumably he told the truth. Lying might have been safer!

Disagree with the throwing rule...it needs to be scraped..but that's a different discussion for a different day

In summary, cricket Australia position here is that "We want to change the culture, so we're going to retain the head coach who has not contributed to the current culture which we don't like over his five years in charge"..... surprised that Lehmann has got away with it given some of the Aussie behaviour in the last 18 months.....

Reckon warner and smith will get a 12 month ban..

Who were the Aussie players fielding at mid on and mid off that Vaughan was referring to?

posted on 27/3/18

I wonder whats gonna happen with the IPL contracts? if Australia wont allow these players to play. And they cant go. The IPL franchise lawyers will sue the hell out of Warner and Smith for failing to honour a contract. It could get messy.

Only 3 players knew. And none of them were the bowlers or th coach.... are they being serious?? That Integrity Officer needs to be investigated by an Incompetence Officer...

Aussies truth tampering now surely .... Not sacking Lehman means Sutherland has no credibility.... appears the senior brass are simply trying to cover up all over again.

IMO this whole thing is a joke. Smith is quite stupid to have even come out to say he planned this. If he didn’t say that there was no way in eons to come anyone would have proved that he had planned to cheat. I think Bancroft could have faced a bit of backlash maybe a few test bans etc, and things would have been normal.

Smith wanted to be a hero and basically instigate anger among the public. IMO they are out for a 1 year atleast given. The sanctions are already decided but as Liverpool pointed out this could get quite messy for the players if they do honour their contracts, so CA are just getting their legal team to fill the gaps.

Without smith and Warner, Australia are going to be thrashed left right and centre. Good times ahead.
