And finally…
‘Outrage’, ‘unfair’ and ‘disgusting’ – that’s what Liverpool fans have reportedly been saying about the PFA Team of the Year.
Why? Because Robert Firmino wasn’t included in this year’s XI – but Sergio Aguero was.
Fox Sports take up the story: “The PFA’s Premier League team of the year has been revealed, and inevitably, not everyone is pleased with the elections.
“Runaway champions Manchester City dominate the side with five players, while golden boot leaders Mohamed Salah and Harry Kane get the nod - joined in a front three by Sergio Aguero.
“Astoundingly, its Aguero’s first selection in the representative side with the Argentine finally rewarded for another prolific campaign but his inclusion, at the expense of Liverpool star Roberto Firmino, has irked fans. And perhaps they’ve got a case.
“Liverpool fans have raged on Twitter after their striker was snubbed, suggesting the decision was ‘an absolute disgrace,’ ‘absolutely unbelievable’ and even ‘criminal.’
It goes on, but after seven years of being one of the nation’s most consistent performer, three Premier League titles and 199 goals – not to mention 30 this season – all we can say is his place in this particular XI is long overdue.
Just as Sergio has had to do, Firmino may have to wait a while longer for the recognition of his peers - and if he keeps doing what he’s doing, his inclusion will no doubt happen in PFA Teams of the Year to come.
But Sergio has earned his spot....
Back with more gossip and rumour tomorrow...
Sergio deserved his spot more in other seasons but after seeing slippy g get it ahead of Yaya the year we beat them to the tittle last think they should remember that before being too outraged and offended.
Rashford would simply swopping the bench at the swamp for the bench at City, no way would he be a first choice so I think it unlikely. Worth it for the implosions that Eric et al would have though. But seriously, the gap in class between the squads is enormous so it makes no sense for him, Walker, as improved as he has been, has struggled with the step up at times and he was a first teamer at Spurs.
Rashford (hypothetically) could provided competition for Jesus - I think he needs some
As for Liverpool outrage at the team of the year 😂 Sterling has more assists and goals than Firminho from out wide, if anyone was to take Sergios place..
I think there's room for Rashford.
Bernardo is better through the centre but is excellent on the wings when closing games out.
However if Sane or Sterling get injured City have no pacey back ups that can stretch the opposition.
And as previously mentioned he can provide competition for Jesus; consider those early games when Pep had to play Sterling as a striker.
Besides the idea of an England team where both Sterling AND Rashford are replicating wing roles as drilled by Pep makes me giddy x
