Linked Players for next season

The only 2 I'd be interested in out of that lot is Grealish and Maddison 2 young promising players who have had good seasons.

Shaqiri off Stoke if they go down? One lazy fecker but on his day he is quality.

Fraser Forster to challenge Kasper?
A couple of seasons ago he was very decent. Recently, benched. Confidence crisis?

Ryan Sessegnon - Fulham left back/midfield.
Would be very pricey but he's talented and scores goals at Championship level. £30 million.

Kieran Trippier - Spurs right back. A great wing-back who crosses well. £30-40 mill.

Sessegnon is gonna cost at least 50m.

Not if Fulham don't go up? If they go up though he will stay put.
We'll meet in the middle - £40 mill.

Yes to Jonny Evans, Huth won’t play again for us and he has tons of experience.

Yes all day long to James Maddison - looks absolute quality.

Yes to sessegnon obviously

Still think we’ll sign a load of dross though

Black Starr

You surprise me with Jonny Evans. Is it the £3mill fee (we were previously looking at £20-25 million).
Yeah, £3 mill is good business, i just don't think he is an upgrade by much to what we already have.

If the owners want sustained success, they & the boss should be aiming for better surely? He ain't no spring chicken either. 30 i think?

Yeah it’s more about the fee. If Arsenal and Man City were interested then I feel he’s good enough for us at that price. He’s definitely not a £30m player though.....

Cheeky bid for Jack Butland if Stoke go down. Definitely hope we go in for Maddison

Would like Butland definitely

Talking of 'keepers how about Ben Foster at WBA.

Oliver Burke at WBA?

Tore Chilwell apart, not that that's saying that much but I was impressed with him.

Shaqiri for the No 10 role. Good talent and attitude.

posted on 21/4/18

Butland, Maddison and Sessegnon would be class additions.

Evans would be good business.

Right back from Europe and players to replace Mahrez and Ndidi when they leave.

No no no to Grealish!!

No doubt we won’t go for any of them .. sadly

Both Grealish and Evans I'd be worried about due to attitude concerns.

Keane, I don't know. It's hard to tell how good he is or rather will be.

Austin - Only as a sub. He'd be a good man to aim crosses at late on but I doubt he'd want to come on that basis. Too injury prone and not influential enough in the build-up to be any more than that though.

Maddison - Looks like good business. Get it done, and early.

Not sure any of these championship linked players are the answer.
On the other hand Butland yes.

I'm looking forward to our next bargain basement player from Ligue 1 or 2!

If Stoke want to sell and he wants to come, Shaquiri (who's only 26) might be a good fit for us given our new style of playing and could potentially fill our troubled no 10 spot. Also might give us that spark which we'd lose with Riyad leaving.

Jonny Evans might be a good acquisition at £8M overall with a 4 year deal say (I don't care how the cost is structured between selling club and player, £8M for a ready made Premier League experienced 30 year old centreback looks good value). Michael Keane still has time to come good I suppose although he is 25 so how much better will he get? Let's get Drag (who's 27) permanently first please!

Grealish - talented but a bit of a maverick, so maybe a tad risky. Probably not a first choice acquisition for me but he has potential. Obviously will only be available if Bruce doesn't achieve promotion.

Austin - good player but too injury prone for me.

Maddison - may look good at Championship level but at £25M is he a risk in the step up to the Premier League?

Shaqiri - Yes. Younger than people often realise and he always has something in his locker in every match - suitable for that role behind Vardy so ticks the box as a genuine upgrade to Okazaki (although may not offer the same work rate which is a dilemma)

Townsend - I know others don't really rate him but I think he has the potential to be a very good player and has always looked good for England IMO.

Cairney - Has had a great season and I could see him making the step up - definitely worth spending the money on considering what we have splashed out on recently...

Butland - Yep and not sure there would be that many other clubs above us in the pecking order who may want a new keeper...but 1 or 2 may be enough for us to miss out.

Evans. I think Maguire is better but not sure if anyone else at the club is; in terms of CB.

Maddison - Similar to Cairney, perhaps offering a little less experience but more potential.

Austin - his scoring record at PL level is actually very good over the three seasons he has amassed. Even during injury affected seasons over the last two years, he us pushing a goal every other game. Knows where the net is at this level.

Betrand - Better than what we have and the potential to regain some real high end form.

Almeida - don't know that much about him, but good right backs that are available and would come to us are few and far between.

On the whole, I think the one thing we need to concentrate on, which perhaps has waned a little recently, is purchasing players with experience of English football - whether that be at Premier League or Championship level (which I think can be highly underrated as an important and successful factor). It's great finding gems and raiding Europe but let's retain that balance.

We have absolutely no chance of getting Sessegnon. I think he will go for a ludicrous amount of money - probably a record for a Championship to PL if Fulham don't go up.

Lots of options/choices from all posters. Thankyou.

It's good in a sense how we all differ on players and on others agree.

Here is where i stand :

Jonny Evans - NO - Good price but won't take us any higher than where we are now. Probably at the peak of his career also. Won't get better.

Michael Keane - NO - Poor season, mediocre defensively, good offensively. Liabilty for defending.

Charlie Austin - NO - Injury prone & probably at his peak as he's a big unit. Decent goalscoring record all the same.

Ryan Sessegnon - YES - But as we have said, would be costly and most likely to go to a big, big club if Fulham don't go up. Will probably stay put if they get promoted. Ktf1 is correct in saying that this player would probably fetch a record fee from Championship to Premier League.

James Maddison - YES - Great talent. Reminds me of a young David Beckham. That's high praise. Scores well, assists, is direct & skilful. Would be costly but probably worth the punt (Jamie Vardy was the same don't forget & now look!)

Ryan Bertrand/Ben Davies - YES - either. Both good left-backs. Probably cost the same, maybe £25-35 million? Bertand may move if Southampton go down.
Davies gets rotated a lot so could move elsewhere but would he come here? I don't think so.

Kieran Trippier - YES - Decent right-back who get's forward & crosses well. £35 million?

Shaqiri - NO - Good player on his day, very good. But doesn't have too many of them consistently. Can be lazy or goes missing, so no. You would't want a Shaqiri on the right and Demarai Gray on the left at the same time.

Tom Cairney - Fulham - probably a YES. Not seen him much if i'm honest. Heard & read lots of good stuff about him though. Price? A big wedge no doubt.

Townsend - Unsure - I like the player or did when he broke into the England team. Since then he hasn't hit the heights. Why?

Butland - YES - Good keeper and plays in the Midlands. No big upheaval so could be a goer? Price = £30 mill? Not sure of his current contract?

Grealish - NO - Hit & miss.

Forster - Maybe - Giant goalkeeper currently benched with Southampton, so could be on the move due to that or if they go down? Would be good competition for Schmeichel whereas Butland would be No1 i think.

Oliver Burke - Maybe - Moved from Forest to RB Leipzig for 12 or 14 million quid when just getting his feet in the Championship. Big, strong & young.

Ben Arfa - Don't know - Puel is keen.

Should be an interesting Summer window! Throw in 1 or 2 good foreign additions aswell.
Let's hope we lose no more than 1 star player from Mahrez, Vardy, N'didi or Schmeichel. Two and it could be critical.

posted on 23/4/18

Butland and Forster have both been poor this season, I would want an upgrade on Kasper if someone if going to come in, I don't think either of these 2 are.

posted on 23/4/18

Butland is class!

I’m a schmeichel fan, in that his pros outweigh his cons, but Butland is definitely a step up.

posted on 23/4/18

Butland has age on his side, a step up? Nope.
