I personally hope this glut of super hero films causes a backlash that reinvigorates Westerns

* this is just a thought and not a fact *

What about if this new Batman universe blows up so big they just scrap the current DCEU and use the Batman as the main one?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Anything is possible but that seems unlikely to me. The fact is that Batman doesn't need any of the other Justice League characters for it to be a success. The Batman mythology is so rich with so many different characters and villains in it that it actually deserves it's own universe in live action format.

Realistically what do the likes of Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Aquaman etc add to the Batman mythos? Very little in reality and I'm not even sure that Batman gels that well with other JL members in a live action setting.

Also WB appear to me moving away from the Marvel concept of one shared universe for all it's DC characters. Going forward we're going to see many more DC movies that don't necessarily tie in with each other and I fully agree with that approach as it's far less constraining.

I think that's why Nolan's Batman worked as well as it did because it didn't even acknowledge the existence of any other JL members and was set in it's own completely independent universe. Able to concentrate purely on Batman mythos and characters. Ditto the Joker movie.

In reality Nolan's Batman barely scraped the surface in terms of characters that he could have used. Matt Reeves has an incredible opportunity to build a Bat universe which uses any of the vast multitude of characters from the Batman mythos and it sounds like he fully intends to do that.

The idea of spinoff movies and TV shows from this Matt Reeves universe is also a really cool idea as we could get a Nightwing series among many other things we've never seen before in live action.

I've been watching Godless again this week. Second time watching but the others in my house hadn't seen it. Really enjoying it again.

Would like to see a series on Buffalo Soldiers. I think from a historical perspective it would be fascinating, and from a human perspective the contrast between the racism they endured and the racism towards the natives they fought in the Indian Wars would be a fantastic issue to explore.

I’m hoping Gladiator 2 will reinvigorate the swords and sandals genre.

Is it actually being made?

A Ben Hur remake would be cool

I have a weird fondness for a film called The Egyptian as well

Id like a top level film about Sulla and Marius

Yeah it’s happening. There was a Ben-Hur remake a few years ago.

Sulla and Marius would be good. A three part Caesar biopic would be good as well. There’s a lot of grate material to use from Rome. Though I think Hollywood is wary of glorifying it film.

Ceasar was done enough justice for me in Rome the tv show

Of which I want a 3rd season. Caligula preferably

I legitmately dont think I'll ever see a better Ceasar than Ciaran Hinds

Caesar*

Legitimate recurring brain issue i have that I can't spell that correctly even though I know the letter order

Fair shout, but a big screen biopic could delve deeper into his earlier life. I think he’s too contentious a figure for Hollywood to consider.

The Odyssey and Aeneid could be done. I’m surprised they didn’t go for them given the success of Troy.

I'm slightly sceptical about a sequel. It's one of my all-time favourite films but it doesn't need a sequel. Also there will be a Maximus sized hole in the movie. Not to mention the brilliantly played Commodus. Just not sure how they come close to the magic of Gladiator and if they can't then why bother. Ridley Scott is also well past his best now and I'm pretty sure he's directing it again or heavily involved at least.

Iceman deserves more attention for his power in the films

He's the same Omega classification as Jean Grey

Batman in a western world that links to the DCEU and keeps his story separate seems like what this thread really needs.

All rumours but an interesting casting choice if true. I think he could pull off a few characters including Iceman, Morph, Nightcrawler, Pyro and maybe even Toad.

Would definitely be an interesting choice. I do hope the X-Men cast will turn out to be as interesting as the casting choices for Reeve's Batman.
