Incredible anyone thinks Assad is anything other than a tyrant who is very much ready to kill his own people with barrel bombs

crickey - i know its a football forum but its also interesting to know what are the views of the people that post on here. We still live in a democracy with freedom of speech (although its getting less and less). If you don't agree with your governments foreign policy it doesn't mean you are a commie or a Russian insider.

At this rate it wont be long before anyone posting a dissenting view will disappear in the middle of the night.

Hold on a minute there's a knock at the door...

I’m not so sure about the chem weapons stuff, it’s all a bit too convinient for a guy who’s winning, to suddenly resort to the only thing that’ll bring him into conflict with the West...if you are being cynical.

However, agreed that he’s a tyrant, but he’d have to be a pretty stupid one to willingly use those weapons while the world watches...

I dont dispute he is a tyrant but I question why we were so quick to back the rebels and the unknown element especially after what happened with Al Quaeda. Then all of a sudden we found ourselves backing ISIS. Absolutely outrageous.

Also this arab spring and the people against the regime makes it sound like its just Assad and a few cronies keeping the people down. It almost 50:50 split if anything the majority are on Assad's side.

The best solution is to bring peace which will only occur under Assad and then bring Assad to court in 10 years or so. However, he is not the only one to blame for the slaughter and there needs to be trials involving people from the rebel side.

How can you possibly think about the handbags in Syria after United's gutless performance tonight.

Get a grip OP and put things into perspective.

😊

People have lost all objectivity on this issue, it’s all about my country is greater than your country so we’re the good guys.

Assad is tyrant, it’s easy to see.

It’s also easy to see that a country which lied about Iraq having WMD’s to rape and pillage it also shouldn’t be trusted.

The only thing that matters is saving the lives of the civilians on the ground and then the priority is making sure it isn’t taken over by another puppet leader.

Let’s not forget that Assad’s father was put in power with the help of the CIA and that’s why his son is in charge now.

Assad should be taken out by an Arab coalition, if only they’ed stop being P🐱’s

FFS

Getting rid of Assad is the worst thing we could think of doing. He is anti IS. We get rid of him and we open Syria up to becoming another lawless state, like Lybia

Getting rid of Assad is the worst solution possible!

Don’t let the western media fool you!

posted on 5/5/18

The Western press always refers to President Assad as a "ruthless dictator" although he's a legal and somewhat "elected" head of state (as if US elections aren't rigged) and this chemical attack was a 10-second video of kids getting their eyes washed. Are we that stupid to believe The US/UK propaganda because they don't like this guy?? If it smells like bullsh*t, it probably IS bullsh*t.

posted on 5/5/18

Its high time we, the people, stopped supporting or excusing all these Western military interventions carried out against ruthless dictators in the name of the people of <insertcountrynamehere>.

In doing so, all we really do is support hypocrisy on a massive scale and dance to the tune of the weapons industry.

If our governments were the slightest bit serious about democracy or worried that the world still had ruthless dictators, they'd start out by telling all the Gulf States to get their democratic sh*t together or forget about being protected by Uncle Sam.

The fact is the arguments that are routinely given for these interventions are as false as threepenny bits. We all know they are.
