Haven’t seen much of him. Do you rate him? Hard to tell playing in the Scottish league for easily the best team.

Very good. Pace, composed, great passer, decent cross, technical and above al a very good defender. Cheaper than Sandro and more likely to stay long term. High potential.

Could possible get both Baz, unlikely though

Hey, wasn't our LB in Garth's "Team of the Season"?? Surely, we're in good stead if Garth says so.....
Would like either Sandro or Tierney, Young's done a fine job deputising, but he's a utility player for me.

Would be a great signing. Surprised at Juve letting him go too!

Yeah, Young and Valencia should alternate at RB , each given 45 mins. It was clearly apparent this season Valencia didnt get forward as much in the second half of games.

Would be a great signing but we need a new RB just as much as a lb. We play with inverted singers and need a RB to provide width, difficult when Valencia is scared to cross the half way line.

Inverted singers? Like Boy George?

Looks okay (not great by any means) with the best back 3 in Europe.

Wonder how he'd do alongside Bailly and Smalling.

As Baz said, why not go for a clearly talented young lad who would be cheaper and could be at the club for 7-10 years?

Well one is proven at the highest level. The other plays in a league the equivalent of league 1.

I know buying big hasn't worked out for us, but it's quite obvious why the club would prefer this option.

Shaw still deserves a shot imo, however that ship as sailed.

Proven at the highest level? Were Ronaldo, Evra, Salah, Vidic, KDB and a host of other clealy talented footballers?

I'd rather we went back to buying quality younger players myself. Too many egos already.

Well that works both way doesn't it. For every one of those players I can reel of a whole list of unproven players who did nothing of note.

I've never seen Tierney play btw. He might be good, but Celtic to United is an absolutely enormous step up. Would be a huge gamble in a position we desperately need to strengthen.

It isn't a gamble if you have scouted a player and done your homework. He seems a level headed lad with a lot of talent, he is British too.

£50m for a full back who isn't top level is mental imo.

Maybe they did that and decided not to go for him?

Maybe you're right, just feels like there is a galactico style approach this doesn't feel a good fit for the club. When other clubs around us are spending less, buying better and playing for attractive football you can't help but feel a little aggrieved.

I take the overall gist of your point Busby but from the examples you gave, only really Vidic was plucked from obscurity.

Ronaldo was playing at Sporting and had rumoured interest from other teams (Liverpool were one, possibly Arsenal as I recall), Evra was a well known rising star at Monaco, Salah looked a very good player at Basel at Champions League level and everyone knew De Bruyne was a good player despite his spell at Chelsea.

I'd love to see us actually give TFM, Tuanzebe, Pereira and any of our other more advanced academy players given squad places and game time. Tuanzebe has always looked at home in the PL when played, TFM is bit more of a mixed bag and Pereira has two seasons of top flight football in La Liga under his belt. All three are good enough to be in the squad.

I'd generally agree. But the galactico signings have been ones we didnt need. Sanchez for example. And Bale if we are daft enough to go there.

We need a left back and Alex Sandro is a very good one who would walk straight into our first team and improve us.

I think with Tierney, people are looking at the likes of Robertson and Liverpool and hoping we can emulate it, when in reality it has absolutely no bearing on how Tierney would do.

I had high hopes for Tuanzebe however he has been really poor at Villa according to friends who go. Not that means we should write him off though.

Tierney is well known too, and it wouldn't be the first time we end up losing out on a quality player because maybe they aren't quite ready.

To an extend, yes, however don't forget that's what the modern Man Utd was built on. Every player has to start somewhere and personally I like to see players develop at the club.

I could be wrong but for the price there are too many question marks over Sandro for me.

Does Sandro have an ego? Or are you just moaning again for the sake of it?

Anyone know why this Sandro chap has been left out of Brazil's World Cup squad?

Coach only wanted to take 2 lb's (understandably) and Marcelo is their number 1 and rightly so and the manager I think has said he wanted a more defensive option as the back up. Sandro definitely a more attacking left back than Felipe Luis.
