Baird, Bent and Shackell officially released now.
https://www.dcfc.co.uk/news/2018/05/rams-confirm-end-of-season-retained-list
Several of our U23s released as well while others are now in the first team squad. I saw Stabana play in that Mickey Mouse competition and thought he looked decent. Certain some lower league club will sign him.
The retained list.
First-team squad players under contract beyond the summer of 2018: Scott Carson, Craig Forsyth, Richard Keogh, Ikechi Anya, Tom Lawrence, Andre Wisdom, Bradley Johnson, Alex Pearce, Andreas Weimann, Mason Bennett, Kelle Roos, Matej Vydra, Max Lowe, Jamie Hanson, David Nugent, Marcus Olsson, Cameron Jerome, Curtis Davies, George Thorne, Jonathan Mitchell, Joe Ledley, Tom Huddlestone, Luke Thomas, Jayden Bogle, Chris Martin, Craig Bryson, Jacob Butterfield, Nick Blackman.
We need a damn good clear out of the old and an input of youth.
KEEP
Timi Max Elsnik – our new No 10
Tom Huddlestone - Needs a box to boxer next to him
Curtis Davies
Max Lowe – Needs to start
Scott Carson
Callum Guy – Bench warmer
Max Bird – Bench Warmer
Kellan Gordon – would like to see him alongside Hudd
Cameron Jerome –
Tom Lawrence – A sh*t Tom Ince. Back up for Vydra
Andre Wisdom
Bradley Johnson – Back up for Hudd
Jonathan Mitchell –
Alex Pearce – Bench Warmer
Andreas Weimann – Needs a final ball
Joe Ledley – Bench Warmer
Craig Bryson – Mentor for Kellan
Matej Vydra – Knows where the onion bag is
Chris Baird – Never really failed us when needed
CARSON
NORM, ??????, DAVIES, LOWE
HUDDZ GORDON
YMAN ELSNIK ??????
JEROME
DELETE
Nick Blackman
Craig Forsyth
Jason Shackell
Chris Martin
Darren Bent
Kelle Roos
Marcus Olsson
David Nugent
George Thorne
Mason Bennett
Jacob Butterfield
Richard Keogh
Ikechi Anya
Jamie Hanson
If we can find better than Anya and Keogh for the price we would get for them then fine but that wouldn't be easy. Anya has played so little there may not be many clubs prepared to pay even a fraction of what he cost or to meet his current wages, in which case he stays or is loaned out to save the wage bill.
Those I would be happy to let go:
Blackman
Butterfield
Forsyth
Martin
Nugent
Roos
Olsson
Butterfield
Keogh (only if good replacement secured first)
Johnson (to save on wages)
Ledley (ditto)
Vydra
Very controversial for you Vidal.
I would let them all go if we can find better, as would anyone. No sentiment in football.
Those surplus to requirement though are obviously Butterfield and Blackman.
Forsyth and Olsson are mid table championship players but that is where we will probably be next season. We have needed better for the past 4 seasons at left back.
Vydra can be great or anonymous. If we received a decent bid I would let him go. If Vydra goes then Nugent must go as he only seems to play if Vydra is on the pitch. Nugent misses too many easy chances now to be a striker.
Rowett doesn't like playing the ball to feet so Martin would have to go. He may have a change of mind considering how a team which played to feet dominated us in the last two games.
Ledley and Johnson I would agree with. Both have their merits but Ledley faded after a good start and Johnson still has days when he can't pass to anyone. plus he gives away unnecessary free kicks.
Do Anya, Bennett and Hanson have any role to play in the team?
Main thing we need to get rid of though is idiot fans who criticise the players for 90 minutes.
"Main thing we need to get rid of though is idiot fans who criticise the players for 90 minutes."
I still have hopes for Bennett although I think I am in a great minority. Anya I think can do a decent job as a wing back for the time being but if a club came in with any sort of a decent bid I would not stand in his way. Hanson I don't particularly rate but he can't be on much money and if Rowett thought he was worth keeping I'm prepared to accept it for now.

Biggest disappointment - Elsnik not promoted to first team squad. Perhaps that will come.
Biggest surprise - release of Alex Cover. I had high hopes for him.
Sheepy, interesting thst you see Kellan Gordon as a CM. I had him down as essentially a right-sided player. Has he changed position whilst on loan at Swindon ? Perhaps Peeder can tell us ?
Elsnik is a given for me, but I would also like to see if Callum Guy can show some of his Bradford form and break into the first team squad.
If we're not going to pursue Winnall, can Zanzala find a role as an impact sub ?
If we're looking for a future left-sided defender, we could do worse than take a long look at Calum Macdonald

He played wide for Swindon - scored a couple of goals before dislocating a shoulder I think. Did alright by all accounts.

They both did well until the change of management, didn't they ? Timi was knocking em in. Seemed to go a bit downhill afterwards ?
That isn't a list of the first team squad for next season. It is simply a list of those in the current first team squad who are under contract. It does not mean that Elsnik or anybody else won't be in next season's first team squad so the disappointment of Ang is misplaced.
Thanks Vidal, thought that might be the case
Zanzala couldn't make the first 11 at Accrington, Lowe couldn't make the first 11 at Shrewsbury. Unless there is a big improvement this season I can't see many breaking in to the first team.
Lingard couldn't make our first team and there he is going off to the World Cup with a good chance of making the starting line-up. He was 23 when he came to Derby. Lowe has just turned 21, the same age as Zanzala. Neither has played anywhere near as many games as Lingard had when he came to Derby and we all thought Lingard would never amount to anything.
In his defence he didn't have many chances, Accrington having the leagues top scorer in Billy Kee.
I'm not saying he's the next big thing, just hoping he's learnt something during his loan. Personally I think Lewis Walker has more potential, but not for another year or so, maybe ?
Lingard had been on loans and scored a hat full for Birmingham before he came to us though Vidal so he had shown he could play against experienced pros. Just because he is off to the world cup with England doesn't make him a good player.
Oh come on Spart, Lingard has become a very good player and you, I and I think pretty much all Derby fans did not rate him. He had scored six goals at Birmingham in the preceding season. I guess you must have quite a small hat that can be filled so easily and yet I don't believe you have a small head to match. It must perch on top like a fascinator.
I am always cautious about young players coming in from the academy as I have seen so many fall by the wayside. Other than Hendrick and Hughes no one has really made the step up in recent times. Was disappointed when I saw the likes of Thomas (Kwame that is), Bennett and Hanson playing. Luke Thomas looks good though.
Most kids fail but all great players were young once. Many are identifiably great from a young age but not all, and we fans are hopeless judges of young players. You say you are cautious Spart but the opposite is true: you have no hesitation in writing players off after a very few performances.
Lingard scored 4 in debut for Birmingham, then scored in the next game. He then missed a load of games through injury and suspension so I think even you might agree that he had proved he could score against Championship opposition.

It's mostly about having opportunities and being played consistently in the right position. Young players are often used as stop-gaps and Hanson is an example of that.
When first team players drop down to the u23s for fitness etc, (Shackell & Anya spring to mind) they don't automatically look like the stand-out players, so it's probably nothing to do with technical ability, but
experience and physique that separates them from the youngsters.
Will and Jeff were good players (although many wouldn't want them back) but they had their opportunities at a time when money was tight and there were fewer more experienced options.
Spart, what is your point here? Despite his history you thought he was crap. You were certain of this. Are you now pretending that you thought he was a good player all along?
