Up there in my all time favourite players alongside Lara, Gayle, Dhoni, Richards, and Waugh.

Great player and great guy.

Did the same thing as Kallis. Was going to play 2015 wc and decided to retire last minute.

He could have easily chosen to retire from tests and played on one days and t20s but oh well.

Best player of this generation and a big hole for SA to fill for WC next year

Top player but he epitomised SA. Looked great in series but when it came to crunch international tournaments just never made his mark.

Also claiming he is tired after playing a full IPL. That’s poor timing.

Legend of the game, no matter what anyone says. Not performing at big tournaments was a South African thing in general, not just AB.

Going to miss his unorthodox batting techniques and clearly a very humble bloke too

the guy said he's just tired now, which is fine really, if you cant give your all then you might as well take a step back

Massive hole for SA just like when Smith and Kallis left. They have only just replaced Smith and now they are imo in trouble as the middle order is not very good.

He might come back to South African national team just before ICC Cricket World Cup in 2019.

Great player, great to watch but a really ridiculous time and reason to retire.

If you are tired. stop going all over the world and playing T20 tournaments.

There would be nothing wrong with him only playing ODIs until the next World Cup which is only 12 months away.

My opinion is either it seems like there's been a big fight with the board and he's been pushed out or he's made an incredibly selfish decision when he's still playing so well.

Spot on JT. 12 months before the world cup and being the key player for them and then call it quits is very selfish.

He has had issues with the board but his country needed him but he turned his back on them a few days after his IPL was over.

Kash, let's hope common sense prevails and he reconsiders his decision.

You want the best players at the World Cup and he's definitely one of them.

I don’t quite understand his reason of quitting. What is he really tired of? He has played more cricket in the past. In fact this year he had only played the 2 series before he was in a 1 year sabotage.

Even morne morkel decides to retire just before the wc. Won’t be surprised if a few more go the same path, before the wc
