Hopefully hameed gets his form back at the back end of the season. Need someone like that. Also bell has to come back now no argument anymore. Got a couple of years left in him and apart from root England's best batsman.

England batting lacking star quality.

Cook passed his best
Root is the Lukaku of cricket
Bairstow never scores the volume of runs
New guys are just not taking the opportunities

England’s batting has been missing the whole of this series. Last match they had bulk of the runs scored by the allrounders. India won’t mind this. I would say we should aim to bat as much as possible tomorrow. The more England bowl, the better india’s chances of getting the series level. Need to think of next match too, the more England bowl in this innings the tired those legs of Anderson and Broad will be.

Good day for India. What a different story we would have on our hands if we had just shows a little more application in the first test.

Dropping DK has been good. Pant has been sound behind the stumps and his batting already looks much better than any other keepers. Hopefully he retains his spot even when Saha is fit. We may as well start blooding our youngsters.

Pant has an average of over 50 in first class cricket which is not too shabby at all. If India persist with him and he gets used to test cricket he could be a great keeper/batmen.

Amazing what happens when you drop trundlers like Vijay and Karthik and instead throw in a young Pant at the deep end (like I suggested may I add!). Has shown brilliant application so far. You don’t need centuries from every batsman to win Tests - you need them to bat around the best one which we have done very well.

The bowlers have turned up all series and Pandya finally showing he can bowl well too. Really hope we grind England deep into the dirt tomorrow and don’t relent. Want to see them run around in the field like it’s Mumbai. Had the first Test gone the other way, this series could have been so different. This India side have the talent to win away series’ but they rarely turn it on like they should.

Kav also one thing to note is this has to be one of the weakest England sides I have seen. The batting is almost none existent and without the allrounders scoring runs they will always struggle with that batting line up. Still think this has to be india’s best chance of winning a series in England but it will be hard work. Can’t afford to have an off day for the next 2 matches as England are still very capable of bundling us out for a low score.

Viru England are definitely chit and nothing special. The fact they are somehow 2-0 up is testament to how poor our batsmen have been before this Test. It’s good to see Rahane finally step up too. They have all contributed this game which is what we needed.

Sadly I can’t see us winning another two Test matches. That would be a freak occurence. Best we can hope for is a 2-2 with a draw at the batting paradise of the Oval. However rarely do games get drawn these days in England. These guys have the ability to pull the series back or still lose 4-1 you never know.

As I expected, there was going to be at least one game where India battered us. England aren't chasing 300 in this match let alone 450+ which is what India will be setting us at the very least.

Rain on Wednesday if England make it that far.

Pujara scored like 8 runs in 70-80 balls after his brisk start to the innings.

This test is done.

Another innings and Kohli makes it count. Have the best opportunity to tire england bowlers out

I have never got the hype around Broad tbh, his wicket taking and economy has never really been good enough to justify his regular starts. Almost think its worth taking another all-rounder in his place.

England should have dropped Rashid and played Sam Curran. It was an injustice to his match winning performances and a blatant disregard of merit!

gawd how can anyone question Broad?? have you seen his record over the last 5 years?? This result is not the bowlers fault. You simply can not get 160 batting in your first innings of a test.. India only got 100 in their first innings in the last game. You don't comeback from it.

posted on 20/8/18

Another all-rounder means you could have done much better than 160 though...

posted on 20/8/18

Nope. you expect your top order to get runs. You think we don't have enough all rounders? Bairstow Woakes and Curran when plays.. Lets not get carried away with Woakes opening the bowling. His record away from home is diabolical.

Scrolling back. I had to laugh at one comment about England winning the last game on the back of Bairstow and Woakes.. England only batted once and only lost 7 wickets.England won by an innings and over an 100 runs. Bit of a reality check?

You can pick different people for different tests though...

posted on 20/8/18

who do you pick to open the bowling???

posted on 20/8/18

Broad or Anderson for the Rose Bowl for me. How come?

posted on 20/8/18

playing dumb now. You question why Broad gets regular starts and then says we could play another all rounder .And then say you want Broad for Southampton.

posted on 20/8/18

I said it depends on the test though

posted on 20/8/18

And you wouldn't have played Broad at Trent bridge? considering his 8/15?
