The only way we win this is 10 wickets.

Not sure why he's bowling at the death. Plunkett has had a bit of tap today but he should have been the man trusted to bowl that over.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm still haunted by the 20/20 WC final over he bowled...mind you I blame Morgan for half of that
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Agreed, as soon as that first 6 was hit, Morgan needed to go and have a chat with him rather than let him bowl the same delivery 3 more times!

That was one pathetic innings by Dhoni. Surely he’s finished - Indian fans around me seem to think so. Spin will decide this, 300 was par on this pitch.

That was a classy take though

That's got to be a frustrating way to go for Vince. He looked in nice touch.

All over, 2-1 England.

Strange series, England well beaten in the first one dayer, have come back and battered India in the next two. Good win for us.

Nice for Root to emphatically answer his critics too.

Superb from Rooty. Hopefully that gives him a nice boost going into the tests. Couple of centuries in that series would be grand.

The worrying thing for India should be just how easily they kept the spinners out of the game, on a wicket that should have assisted them massively!

Also, well played Morgan. Got the toss spot on both times.

India have to address the batting situation imo. Rahul being dropped for no reason today is a massive crime. Give the lad a chance. Also why bring back Raina after two years in an away series in England

Batting is far too reliant on the top three and any hint of swing and Rohit is pretty ineffective. Still think we will do well next year in the word cup but my word for the batting talent we have, it is not being utilised correctly.

I would say England deserve credit for assessing where they failed against the spinners and addressing that in the next 2 games. Kuldeep getting 6/25, 3/68 and 0/55 demonstrates the progression they made.

The biggest shame is that whilst India won a T20 and an ODI and England won 2 ODIs, none of the matches were close and both sides won their games with relative ease. Hopefully the test series sees a better contest which should be interesting considering the dry hot summer we've had.

Personally thought one days should have been easier for India to win the series. Don’t think we have much of a chance in tests to be brutallly honest. Not sure what the team management have been thinking but none of the test specialists have been in England to get acclimatised to the conditions. The ones that have played a few matches here and there look absolutely clueless.

Pujara has had a horrendous county season and honestly speaking don’t think he would make any impact with the bat. Has been a home track bully for a while now.

Vijay and Rahane have also struggled for a while now.

Dhawan has issues in the limited overs- in fact very similar to what we have seen in the past. In tests England will be even more ruthless. The starts he managed to get with no conversions will be harder to get against Anderson and Broad.

KL Rahul - haven’t seen enough of him but he does struggle against the moving ball.

That leaves us with Kohli - who has been in good form. But with the others around him and probably the 2014 series in the back of his mind it could end up being a pretty long series for India.

Don't forget that we have a lot of problems of our own and have more questions than answers.

At the top of the order we have Cook who there are still question marks whether he has the appetite or mental fortitude to make big runs, Jennings who has just come back into the side, Root who's just moved up to 3 and feeling the pressure of captaincy and Malan who's struggled since he was bumped up a position following an impressive Ashes.

It still isn't clear who the 3rd seamer is after Broad and Anderson and whilst Bess impressed somewhat when he came into the side, that was more with bat than ball. Although if the pitches are going to be conducive to spin then Bess and Leach may well both feature.

Wood and Curran for me to back up broad and Anderson and recall moeen as spinner.

posted on 19/7/18

Does that mean you wouldn't pick Stokes?

posted on 20/7/18

I wouldn't pick stokes until hes finished with court and whatever punishment he's dealt out.

posted on 20/7/18

That's fair enough. I'd be surprised if Curran retained his place but you never know, he picked up 7 wickets against India A this week and is a handy batsman.

I guess a lot of it will depend on whether they think Stokes is able to bowl a 4th seamer's quota. England will probably go safe and pick Woakes and Stokes which against India and with our fragile top order, is probably the best bet.

Bess got out the two top scorers in the second innings and potentially both of them, Rahane and Pant, will line up in the first test which the selectors will have noted and most likely give him the nod to retain his place.

With 5 tests in a short space of time however, it would be of no surprise to see the bowling attack be freshened up. Only Broad and Anderson will likely play all 5 tests if they stay fit.

Anderson play vs root and bowled him. Now root bowled Anderson back. Good fun
