can someone help me better understand what the role is of a Sporting Director and why Ballack would be a good choice for it?

I think he's had some kinda role with the premier league for the last few years. Like a Chelsea ambassador. I've seen the tweets every game. They've always got the same hashtags. Always tweeting a picture of himself ready to watch the game too. So paid work imo

Micheal Ballack as DOF at Chelsea would be great.
Apart from being an ex Chelsea player im not sure why Ballack should be chosen as a director of football at the club, I'd much prefer Luis Campos.
The Chavy One MB has good links in Germany which might help Chelsea in signing young and talented German players in Bundesliga.Other than that,he is a big legend and he might play a major role behind the scenes and as he does not want to become a manager,his presence will not lead to unrest and insecurity for new Chelsea manager and he will also not be undermined by any new Chelsea manager.
I'd rather have Emile Heskey than Emenalo....
So Ballack being linked with this kind of role with the club is absolutely oustanding!!
