Just been having this conversation on another thread, I hope he does, but there is nothing to suggest that will be the case.

Look lets be honest utd finished 2nd but it might have been 4th no difference.

I like how this argument only applies when United finish 2nd. When Tottenham (2017) or Liverpool (2014) finish 2nd, only THEN it’s a big deal.

I just feel you had the squad to challenge

.................

We didn't.

Our squad and often first XI were often unbalanced.

That and Jose often doesn't know a good player from a bad one.

Jose has a lot of work to do and needs to be doing far more but like I said in another tread, at his best (Chelsea, Inter and Real) Jose is a counter attacking manager. Of course he needs the right players for that to work and hopefully that is what he is trying to address this summer.

Fred a b2b along with quality at RW and fullback areas would greatly help that IMO.

If Jose can't get us playing like that then he's gonna have major issues and will likely fail.

We had the squad to push City a bit further but the manager held the players back.

He will not suddenly become Fergie of the 90s. We will play the dull turgid crap that was served up last season.

He will play Sanchez even though he has been dog poo and criticise Martial and Rashford and will eventually sell both and Pogba to another team.

We will then go back and sign them for 100 million each

We didn’t have the squad to challenge. It hurts my brain when I read this. City got 100 facking points ffs. We don’t have the quality to get close to that.

If Jose was the coach of City, with the same players, I will bet my flat they won't come close to 100 points. Managers evolve, formations evolve, Mourinho is still stuck in 2004.

Always love it when fans know more than a manager. Our fans used to say the same “why doesn’t mourinho play baba Rahman???”. Baba Rahman then did play and our fans realised why.

I am talking about the premier league here. Yes he did in 2015, and got sacked the following year.

Mourinho is the modern day Arsene Wenger. He will not change but may still win trophies.

The game has moved on. Utd and Mourinho fans are currently experiencing that same crossroad that we Arsenal fans had, where some believe that the game will move on and other managers and teams will overtake him, while others believe his tried and trusted management style will bring major success like the old days rather than sporadic cup wins like Wenger's last few years.

Only time will tell, but it told for Wenger.

Tbh I think the local cups can be won by United but the league or CL, just too many good teams IMO. United's style won't allow them to pick up enough points IMO or beat any top top team over two legs. Too many draws is what will do them in IMO.

I don’t think opposition fans understand why Mourinho was fired.

Of course Mourinho won't change his whole footballing philosophy. I'd prefer a more positive manager myself. But (in contrast to the fully engaged detractors) I recognise there's quite a gulf between the football played by a Mourinho team that is flying and a Mourinho team that is stuttering. If it's packed with great players and if they all know their jobs and are committed to the ethos, then the team will score plenty of goals. They won't win the hearts of a generation of neutrals but they will play with a bit of a swagger and occasionally attack with panache, and they won't be less entertaining than e.g. the Fergie title winning teams of 2009, 2011 and 2013. And I do think that would be a lot easier on the eye than the football we've seen under Moyes, LVG and the first two seasons of Mourinho. No, it wouldn't be orgiastic sexball. But the committed detractors, whose positions are entrenched so deeply and for so long that they'd have no scope to modify their views, would seem a little daft.

I’ve seen it many times when fans wonder why the manager doesn’t play certain players and then those certain players are given a chance, and the fans then instantly understand why those players don’t play.

They’d probably be pushing close to or just above 90 points I think.

Not that it’s relevant to my point. Anyone that thinks we have the squad to challenge this City team is a facking moron.

I think Pep at Utd and Jose at City and Pep still would've won the title.
