I was following the twitter debate between Piers Morgan and Southall this week.
As a Liverpool fan it is hard to say this but Neville Southall was hands down the best goalkeeper of his era.
Schmeichel was the best in recent times
And De Gea is the best for me right now as Utd would be mid table without him
Why do all our rivals have great goalkeepers and we have always had clowns?

We've been very lucky. Cech who is the best all around keeper i've seen in my lifetime, probably didn't have the distribution of Schmeichel though, but before that we had cudicini who was fantastic, and after we've had TC.
Before that we had De Goey and Kharine though
It’s always difficult to compare across generations.
But when a great keeper tells everyone that he was the greatest then you have to go with that.
Buffon, Schmeichel, DDG, Neuer have been the standouts in my opinion in last 20 ish years.
And Cech surely? and even VDS.
Cech broke every record going near enough in English Football
If I look back further then I would chuck in Big Nev too.

Lol people still say this despite him probably being better. That 2012 CL run he was the best goalkeeper in the world. Was the main reason that we won it, forget drogba. Without cech we wouldn't have got close.
In the final faced 6 pens, dived correct way for all 6 and saved 3.
Just the ignorance to say that is one of the things that makes me question posters on this board.
That save from Andy Caroll in the cup final is the best i've ever seen live, and probably the best since Schmiechels wonder save, and the best until DDG came along.
Cech is and was a great keeper.
Ray Clemente was immense for Liverpool but it’s been downhill since him.
Always liked Shilton as well
Btw not saying he was the best or better than so and so, but to have those records and to pull off the saves he done and have the control of his box that he had(and that CL run). He has to be in there.

Yes indeed! Add to that Bill Glazier, Ken Mulhearn, Jim Montgomery and a whole host more.
Lev Yashin was described by many commentators as the best in his era, but you could add many more that could be classed the best since then. Who will ever forget that save Gordon Banks made from Pele's downward header. I'm sure the list could go on and on, so it really depends what era you grow up in.
