VAR

I think the right decision was made in the end but why it took about a minute for the ref to decide it warranted reviewing is my qualm with it.

If it was the right decision, why did the spin on the ball shift when the challenge was made, and why was the defender not sent off?

There was definitely contact on Griezmann. Don’t think the last man rule applies anymore when it’s a penalty. The penalty is now seen as sufficient punishmevt

Fair enough; I didn't know that.

Still, it looks like there was contact with the ball. Otherwise why would the spin have shifted?

I don't think it was a penalty and I agree VAR just doesn't work. It was an embarrassment in Italy this season and I don't think it went down too well in Germany from what I have heard.

yeah i don't like var, the constant stoppages and the "is it a goal or will it be ruled out" fear kills the atmosphere along with all the waiting around

not to also mention it still doesnt get decisions 100% spot on

Does not matter if he touched the ball, griezi still had it and then was taken down

It was a foul imo

The only real success in technology in football is the goal line decision

It was the correct decision.

and it interferes with one of the great traditions of the game, being the post-match sparring on the key points of controversy in the pub.

In practice it should, at the very least, ensure that correct decisions are always made. What else is it there for? Yet we have seen, repeatedly, VAR decisions that have been debatable at best and plain wrong at worst, the France penalty this afternoon being another perfect example.

Completely agree with the OP. VAR is shytte.

Controversy is good for the game. Why do we want to remove it?

posted on 16/6/18

Doesn’t the fact that people are still debating whether the var decision was correct or not invalidate the claim that it removes controversy?

I had a football match this morning. I tackled a guy, got a toe on the ball and then I got changed and was away to drive home. I was driving home and saw the guy I tackled at the petrol station so I pulled in to the petrol station and ran him over multiple times and then lit fire to his remains. The police came along and we reviewed the video footage and I showed him that I clearly got a touch to the ball first and he agreed that I had done no wrong and let me skip merrily on my way.

Yes, but if you get controversy either way, why have VAR that is tedious and slows the game down? Keep the game moving and lets talk about the decisions for years afterwards.

Because it increases the chances of the officials coming to the correct decision. On average var will get more decisions right than wrong.

VAR IS SHEETE ,proven again today,it is already ruining the game with it's interruptions to the flow of the game, get rid of, apart from goal line.

No way was that a penalty for France, even a short sighted frog could see that,if you'll pardon the expression.

Well, apparently, it has not increased the chances of you coming to the correct opinion on VAR.

You're right.

They absolutely do not.

I just tried to go to the pub next door to my flat but there is a sign on the door saying that they are out of business and closed forever. The sign goes on to say that it is due to the France penalty incident. It further went on to say the the company's forecasts were based on conversations generated by no VAR being used to determine whether or not a penalty should have been awarded in the Griezmann incident. Now what the hell do I do with my afternoon? Thanks VAR.

We're not talking about the game though, or even focussing on the incident.

Once again, we're all agreeing that VAR is ruining the very fabric of the game and threatening the continuing existence of our species.
