The key difference isn’t just personnel, Argentina look a total shambles whereas Portugal always look organised and hard to beat. They trust themselves to defend well and get a chance or two for Ronaldo.

Messi doesn’t look like he knows what his role is for Argentina. If he waits patiently for someone to make a chance for him, it doesn’t come. If he comes to deep to make things happen, there’s not a lot of quality beyond the other striker to find. It’s just a mess. I also think the expectations on Messi are greater for Argentinians that the expectations on Ronaldo are for Portuguese.

While Ronaldo does look like he seems to be handling the pressure a bit better, Portugal are a better organised team and Argentina look like individuals. Little bald Joe Pesci doesn't seem to know what to do other than walk along the touchline constantly.

Ronaldo by the way was worse than Messi was in his first 2 games at the Euros, which they won. Unfortunately for Argentina they don't let third place group teams qualify at this World Cup.

its the midfield to me, it’s so important in the modern game and last night they essentially didn’t have one.

CR was bad there, yes but he really wasn't. How do I know? I watched those games again just last weekend.

Messi yesterday was as disappointing a performance I have seen from 'the' superstar in a national team.

Yeah, I don't know why Argentina set up with two DMs ( against Iceland). No cohesion there whatsoever.

It really is a fantastic story re Iceland, I will be downtown Reyjkavik today at 3pm watching the game, weather permitting and the atmosphere, well, nothing like it. It is essentially a national two-three hour holiday!!

Gonna be an interesting world cup... Could be one where a lesser known team win it.

Croatia certainly looking like a dark horse for the win... Everyone focused on Ronaldo/Messi, but midfields often win things for you.. and Croatia have a strong set of CMs.

What do you mean he was bad but he wasn't? He was bad - missing good chances, rubbish shots, free kicks, and missed a penalty like Messi. He didn't help his team win either of those first 2 games and he was lucky Portugal were allowed to qualify and he go on to improve his performances.
