Eric, I agree that he plays with better players at City than for England, and that he needs some goals for England and you are right, he was the most dangerous player for most of the first half. There is however, always an element of luck. Both Griezman and Alli have scored when the ball went straight to the keeper who should have stopped it. An element of luck, an element of confidence. Hopefully both turn for Sterling.

Creating them in the first place is equally important though.

Sick of this conversation and scapegoating.

Drop sterling and then let’s see how the team plays.

His running and positioning is stretching teams and forcing defenders to sit deeper.

Take that away and let’s see how England play.

Sterling's performances have been good. He has to start scoring goals however. People have to stop being so defensive of him also. Yes some are idiots who don't understand what he gives to the team but others know how good he is and therefore expect better of him.

Sterling seems to be taking the flak left over from Rooney. There always has to be a pantomime villain.

Yeah I get it. It must be frustrating for those sat in the middle. But equally it’s important to challenge some of the lazy comments flying about at the moment. Hopefully it will all chill out when he gets a goal on Wednesday 😜

I think it's fairly simple. For us, Sterling makes the run and gets the pass from Dave, KDB, or another, gets the chance and scores a goal. For England, i.e Sweden game, Sterling makes the run and nothing happens apart from the occasional hoof from Henderson and is expected to have 100% conversion rate. England do not appear to have a team midfield player that has a creative vision. I expect us to beat Croatia, because they're crap, and get beat by Belgium in the final.

Hoof? You mean outstanding perfectly timed and weighted curling pass taking out the whole defence and landing right into Sterling's path?

You're as bad as the idiots slating him.

I think Henderson has played well, I wasn't a fan but he has played to his strengths. He has been more consistent than most in the squad, with the exception of Stones, Trippier and Maguire. Dier is not a capable deputy for him. The weakness of the team is LWB where neither Young nor Rose can defend well.

That's a bit hypocritical considering your whole comment above is saying it isn't the City player's fault for not being good enough but his teammates making him not be good enough.

Perhaps rather than having this idiotic view that you can't criticise a City player and your attempt to reverse that into somebody not allowing criticism of their own club you can look at the actual reasons he is not performing to his high standards? For example being played out of position, playing in a more defensive system etc.

It isn't about whether Sterling's good enough. He hasn't regressed in his talent. His talent has been there for all to see last season. It's about having English players who are at a level to serve him well. A couple of good passes from Henderson does not make the Liverpool player a KDB or Silva.
Also wherein did I say you can't criticise a City player. I have and will continue to do so when I feel it is appropriate.

I think the comparable is with Lingard and Alli more than Henderson anyway.

One sublime cross from Lingard, header straight through the keepers hands somehow and that is about it. What KDB and Hazard will do to them I shudder to think.

That's why I mentioned Henderson earlier. He's the only one, to my recollection, that's laid anything on for Sterling.

And yet he's the holding midfielder.

That's the way this system is set up however. It will never get the best of Sterling. It's set up to get the best from Kane. Wing backs to cross for him, set pieces etc. Sterling needs to play wide in a three.

posted on 9/7/18

I don’t think it does get the best out of Kane, its designed to gets the best out of Alli and Lingard as the midfield runners.
