He was good on the whole last season and was pretty durable as well. Even if we buy another CB he could be an option as a marauding RB as he was for SAF.....

He's actually the only CB who's place in the squad I don't think should be under threat. He's been our most reliable defender for years now.

Could do with better starting, but he certainly shouldn't be sold.

Rojo looks to be on his way out.

How Jones is still stealing a living here I don't know

Bailly has also got to be on thin ice this season. Another year of injuries will be a big worry.

Lindelof has got to show some improvement or we'll probably cut our losses.

As i said, Smalling is the only reliable one out of the lot.

Our defence has been solid for years. Smalling is poor on the ball but he's a solid defender.

Solid ain't good enough against Pep's Colosseum.

Smalling is fine as a 3rd or 4th choice CB at this level

Spurs level? You wouldn't have him on the roster.

Meh he isnt good enough on the ball to get me thrilled about it but we need another CB and if we signed him as 4th choice id be fine with it

Wrong. He’s just been less injured and more consistent. He’s not played at a level considerably better than Rojo has.

We haven’t had an outstanding defender since Fergie left. Should never have sold Evans.

smalling is a very good defender imo
he is poor on the ball tho

but imo if paired with a decent ball playing cb it is not much of an issue even in todays modern football

the problem we currently have is baily should have been that cb but he is constantly injured

I didn't concede 2nd place. I have conceded first and that's not even being negative. We've got no chance.

I said Liverpool are favs for 2nd place but we could still get it if their new arrivals take time to adjust.

I've always been a realist.

Rojo is fine most of the time but equally as poor on the ball as Smalling and is too prone to moments of madness

I’ll get my body armour prepared for this, but I think Smalling is one of our better CB’s. He does have an occasional ricket in him, but without checking all the stats, he does chip in with some vital goals. He’s not injury prone, and regarding his ball playing ability, let’s be honest, our midfielders and forwards are probably the most static in the league, I think Beckenbauer would struggle to look like a decent ball player in our team.

He has been a consistent performer since SAF left. He's not great but does the job for us and has done for years.
