First win of the season by a goal to nil.

Carabao Cup tonight. Does anybody care? Well that was my first impression. How quickly we have forgotten shoe-horning ourselves into a corner of Old Trafford in the third round of last season’s competition!
Let me also say that I took no pleasure in claiming my first correct prediction of the season on Saturday. I was out visiting when I saw that we were ahead on Soccer Saturday but the EFL highlights only confirmed that Gillingham had been able to slice open our defence as easily as Rochdale did at the start of the previous weekend.
Spotted a few more old Brewers over the weekend. Made a point of turning over to watch a few minutes of Wrexham to catch Stuart Beavon and found that Rob Lainton is a team mate.
Then on the EFL highlights show there was a shot of Luke Murphy being replaced by Bolton, just before Bristol City launched a comeback. Scott Shearer conceded a penalty for Oxford at home to Fleetwood. Bradford City’s retreating defence and midfield featured three former players with Anthony O’Connor, Hope Akpan and Sean Scannell all involved. There was a brief shot of Tom Naylor for Portsmouth at Blackpool and Zeli Ismail was brought down (by Matty Lund) for a penalty which he scored for Walsall.
George Taft was clearly visible at the back for Cambridge and there was a fleeting glimpse of Tyler Walker playing for Mansfield. On the Match of the Day highlights, a first of I suspect many sightings of Jordan Pickford being criticised, harshly in my view, for failing to keep out a piledriver free kick from Ruben Neves. 32 and counting.
Probably not enough games to run a cup predictor this year but after the fragmented pre-season and pointless start to the league campaign it’s just the sort of game that we will go and win - 2-1 to the Brewers!
