Danny Devito x5

When I was growing up, the only people that liked Leo DiCaprio were teenage girls hoping he would take them to the prom.

To even compare him to the likes of Jack Nicholson is ludicrous in my opinion. I can think of so many actors better than him.

Why would teenage girls liking leo dicaprio make a difference?

Different eras. Different type of actors. Both very good.

I meant that no one really liked him for his acting, it's like saying Justin Bieber is a better singer than Stevie Wonder. Different eras and all that

Jack Nicholson wins by some distance.

I'm not sure that's true. Besides he was a very young actor even when titanic was done.

He then went on this sold run later in his career:

Catch Me If You Can 2002
Gangs of New York 2002
The Aviator 2004
The Departed 2006
Blood Diamond 2006
The 11th Hour 2007
Body of Lies 2008
Revolutionary Road 2008
Shutter Island 2010
Hubble 2010
Inception 2010

Leo got sympathy praise because people realised that he's good but didn't win anything of note.

Very similar to Giggs winning that POTY award few years back.

That was actually like a decade ago

Catch Me If You Can 2002 - Leo was really annoying, Christophen Walken and Tom Hanks were much better

Gangs of New York 2002 - This movie started off amazing and Daniel Day Lewis was legendary, the movie feel off a cliff after Leo and Diaz joined the film

The Aviator 2004 - This was a good performance, I'll give you that, the movie really dragged though

The Departed 2006 - Thought this movie was really overrated and even then it was a joint effort, many actors performed well in this and it wasn't solely Leo

Blood Diamond 2006 - I loved this film and Leo was very good -

The 11th Hour 2007 - Not seen it
Body of Lies 2008 - Not seen it
Revolutionary Road 2008 - Not seen it

Shutter Island 2010 - Fantastic film but I much preferred the acting of Ruffalo and Kingsley

Hubble 2010 - Not seen it

Inception 2010 - Good film and concept, acting was decent.

Like I said, he has done well since the 90s, but best ever is a bit much.

The Departed would've been great if Leo sent himself to be the 'policeman' to spy for the mob and then played both sides and became a don/head of the police force playing both sides for a fool. Imagine you're a big time mafia chief AND head of the special unit that's supposed to investigate you.

That would've been some mafia chit.

I haven't seen that one

As for the Departed, Scorsese got the sympathy vote there. He should've won an Oscar years before that.

He should of won one before that, but you can't say it wasn't the most deserving ffs. It wasn't a great year for movies bar Pan's Labyrinth which was never going to win a big award.

It should've though. It's a masterpiece. Del Toro won for Shape of Water more as an apology for not giving it to him for Pan's labyrinth.

Although Shape of Water is pretty good.

Goodfellas should definitely have beaten Dances with Wolves although I did love both films

Raging Bull should've won too

As for the Departed year, yes I thought Pan's Labyrinth was good and I thought Babel was up there too. I know Departed was a remake, I have never seen the original film. I would like to see that at some point.
