yep, that's what a proper coach can do, somebody has said this previously but his role has been simplified.
what a pity we didn't get Pulis in rather Bielsa as 'some' suggested, he would of made him into Messi
Its clear for everyone to see that we have a world class coach.
What he has done for players we didn't think were good enough for the starting 11 is simply unbelievable.
Very, very early days I know, but Bielsa's Leeds is a totally different animal but previous seasons, especially last.
Loving his football is Kalvin. Confidence brings out the best in players, you could see in his body language before the season started he was enjoying being at the club and ready to start. Maybe Bielsa told him in pre season he liked what he saw and gave him his role straight away.
Looks a class act so far and it helps when everyone around is playing well too.
Philips did well under TC when he first came in.
The moment Tc was on shaky ground and not supported by AR and then PH comes in with little authority, Philips and almost all players did poorly.
I don’t think you can underestimate the influence that knowing the head coach is in a secure position can have on the team.
That aside, the system and freedom it gives Philips clearly suits him.
I think there is just so much clarity about his role.
Sit in front of that defence, play little triangles, dicate the tempo, get on loose balls, give away cheap fouls when they break away.
when we are attacking and lose the ball, hes always there to stifle the ''rival'' when they break away.
must admit though having watched all the games on tv so far, some of the switches hes played have been too long and quick for the camera to keep up with.
ive thought damn thats out of play and it just lands on a sixpence for one of our players.
playing well atm.
The position he has now really suits his play. Simple passes and breaking up play.
Some of the passing range in the whole team has been superb. Barry Douglas pass to Alioski for our second against Stoke was a prime example, too quick, direct and accurate to deal with, it turned what is usually just trying to win the ball back and defend, to chance creation in an instant, too quick for any team to deal with.
I think calling his role simple is doing a massive disservice to what he has been doing for the team. He needs to know when to drop back and play as a third CB. He needs to know when to push forward and press and where the runs should be to make space.
That's what the whole team have been doing. Making the runs that make simple passes available. Phillips benefits from this, but he also contributes to it.
Harrogate the urgency in that move was overwhelming. Takes technique and lots of coaching to get those things right.

yup.
he was so advanced for roofes second goal against derby,
stole the ball back, gave it klich and the rests history
they look well drilled.

Sorry, meant second goal v Derby
Phillips is clearly benefitting from a coach he respects, a system that suits him, and a lack of abuse from some quarters of the terraces.
He's put in 3 great performances so far - and I suspect is one of the first names on the teamsheet at the moment. Lets hope he can keep it going.
Personally I really like the guy and hope he can prove some of his doubters totally wrong.
I said it on another thread yesterday, for me on current form, he's like another new signing - and a good one.
I like Kalvin, he's a local lad who loves Leeds and puts all the effort in but I didn't think he was good enough to be a starter in a side aiming for promotion.
I am hoping he keeps this up and proves me wrong because he's certainly good enough at the moment.

Yes they have
Philips had a similar start last season. Gotta be honest not been a massive fan of his... if he can be consistent then he really has turned a corner. But I’ll reserve judgement yet. Too early. But positive signs.
The true test of whether he’s arrived or not is when wingman says he’s had a good game...
No one on this thread has called his role simple, you are misinterpreting what people are saying.

Agree, nobody saying his role is 'simple', just saying his role has been simplified. instead of trying to boss the midfield, run around like a headless chicken, he;s got a clear indication of what his role is, to simplify it.

That's not what simplified means.
Lubo, it is mate. Simplify does not mean the role is simple.
Instruction 1... go out and boss that midfield... what does that mean exactly? - run around like a headless chicken?
Instruction 2 (simplify) - protect that back 4, play the space, trust in your counterparts to do their job, keep it simple.
that's not the same as saying, 'your role is simple'
