Fred vs Keita

Be interesting (to me at least) what strength team Klopp plays in the league cup really. We/he needs a trophy but if you go deep into that competition it can kill your January.

................

That is OK though Hoody. You are on a break in the CL until Feb.

If you get to the semis I think it's 7 games in 21 days no matter what or something daft.

Ah, so you don’t start them, you just can’t help getting reeled in and embroiled in them?

.................

Oh, I can help it.

I lower myself to the standard of the person I am dealing with.

For example, termy, when dealing with you, I imagine I am talking to Benny from Crossroads.

Google will help you there.

Liverpool have bought well and have a good style about them that can beat anyone on a good day.

My main concern, if I were a Liverpool fan, would be maintaining that intensity over a season for a title challenge. From what I see of Keita he looks a powerful and energetic presence in the middle. I wonder though whether someone in the Gary Mac mould would have been good for you as well when you want to control games?

I don't watch every LFC game like the Scouse fans but it's just my observation that at times they struggle control games other than by blitzing the opposition.

Good post as always Diafol.

I think Milner and Henderson are quite calming influences in that regard really but we do have a lot of midfield options now, loads in fact, and our youth system has some good players too.

Be interesting (to me at least) what strength team Klopp plays in the league cup really. We/he needs a trophy but if you go deep into that competition it can kill your January.

You see more of LFC of course but I meant someone with the passing range Gary Mac had and he was some influence for you in 2001. Wouldn't have to be playing each and every game but someone coming towards the end of their careers playing the 90 now and then, and coming on with 20 minutes to go in others, could work well in terms of calming you down at times.

About United: I don't think we're at all as pleasing on the eye as LFC but we can win ugly which is why I wouldn't write us off just yet. If we can stay in games, we, theoretically at least, have plenty of matchwinners from the GK to the CF. In a funny way as well, because we don't have that clear and defined style and starting XI, we would perhaps be able to lose one or two players and it wouldn't affect us as much as other teams who are a little more consistent in their play.

I actually think you should go for a trophy as well absolutely. If you're in the League Cup semis then I'd say go strong in that and rest in FA Cup if you have to. A trophy is a trophy and players will want more of it.

United fans will say Fred
Liverpool fans will say Kieta

The answer is nobody knows and it's one game into the season.

The answer is so obviously Keita literally zero argument

3 or 4 and a few assists too. Few cards too.

I don't make wild claims but Keita is going to be exceptional, anyone can laugh at me but ill be right.

Yeah Mane was top class. Torres home debut v Chelsea was really impressive too.

Alonso stands out for me though cause immediately saw how good he could be with how he played the game with such ease.

On Sunday we saw Keitas abilty with the ball both in his footwork and hus ability to carry the ball and his annilty to pick a pass and that was all in the move for the first goal!

Sae his engine too and ability to turn the ball over. I was blown away, rival fans won't admit it for months yet but they'll know inside he's an absolute gem of a player.

This.

Yeah Keita moves well doesn't he and a few other things really stand out too. His movement looked excellent. I liked the way he made the pass I'm front of Robertson, it's such a little thing but makes all the different. Then he showed quick feet in the box too.

Hard not to be excited by him based on his debut.

The pass to robinson gave andy no.option but to slide it across to Mo was a simple enough pass but in the moment he did it perfectly.

The way he is on the ball is what really stood out though

Keita's intelligence is already ahead of anything we've had in midfield for a while...including Coutinho (yes I said that). The positions he takes up is so in tandem with our the play is shaped. It's not just forward positions or moving towards the ball all the time to be involved in the play. He just slots himself in pockets of space sometimes away from the play. Once the others pick up on this and quickly switch the ball to him, he'll have a field day running at the opposition.

He's just getting warmed up imo. There'll be plenty more from him.
