Jiminez has been superb in the opening three games. Scored in the first, unlucky to hit the post in the second, scored today but was a few inches offside. If only we had a striker that looked like scoring

----------------------------------------------------------------------
He’s actually missed a few easy chances in the box. Looking at his stats he doesn’t look to be a 20 goals a season striker maybe more one that holds up the play and is technically good, perhaps a good header of the ball etc

He skied one from about 2 yards out against Leicester, I think jota missed a good chance today as well. You need someone clinical in those situations - a younger Defoe if you like! That’s all I’m saying - it’s hardly a major criticism
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And all I am saying is that I disagree with you. We had a Defoe/Bent style striker in Afobe (albeit not as good) and he didn’t fit our game at all. Jiminez is a far better front man than any of those and has so far given every indication he will be a goal threat.

I notice Vardy got 4 goals in his first season at Leicester so I guess you would have given up on him after the first month. Just as you seem to think Jiminez is not the answer for us after three games in which he has been excellent

Like the look of Jimenez alot but not sure I see him bagging 15 goals. That said I struggle to see where the goals are gonna come from in any great volume at the moment anyway.

Jota needs to get off the mark sooner rather than later as his goals were a big part of last season and you would hope his position can contribute ten this term at least

You need to do your research better and not just pick stats from Wikipedia. Vardy got 4 goals in his first season because much of his appearances were either from the bench or out wide on the left as Pearson didn’t know what he was doing. Ulloa was the main striker. When vardy was given regular game time, then we saw a return to the scintillating season he had during our promotion from the championship

I don’t think Jiminez is really that kind of player - has he scored 20 goals in a season before? I honestly don’t know - but from what I’ve seen of him, he’s not a natural finisher and lacks composure. There’s no doubting his quality but he’s a different type of forward.

My worry is that you don’t look like you have that clinical goal scorer in your team that top 10 sides tend to have. You have a fantastic midfield and are a threat no doubt but can definitely see you dipping into the market for a striker in January

The problem we actually have is that we don't have another option other than Jimenez unless you count Bonatini (now there is a fella who won't threaten the opposition goal).

Figured selling afobe was ok assuming we added another striker but we haven't and toss in an injury to Cav and our bench game changers are very very limited

posted on 26/8/18

Basically we should have kept Afobe to at least have an option in times of need

posted on 26/8/18

No idea why we got shot of Afobe, but as he is on loan is there a recall clause. Not saying he is the goal scoring answer, just another option from the bench. Fancy he could have contributed, maybe 5 or 6 goals

posted on 26/8/18

Don't think we can recall as he signed with a permanent deal already set up next season

Bonatini would have to do if we lost Jimenez for a while but would much rather have Afobe if we are chasing a goal.

No disappointment from me that we don’t have Afobe, although the Stoke fans I know wish they hadn’t already agreed to sign him for £12.5m in January. Won for the first time this season yesterday, having dropped Afobe

Keep trying Black Starr. Vardy got 6 in his 3rd season at Leicester. What a good job they gave him plenty of time rather than writing him off for not scoring regularly immediately.

As for Jiminez he is unlucky not to have 3 goals already. He has got one, played superbly and he’ll do for us. As for Vardy he skied one into the stands against Wolves, which in your mindset presumably means Leicester will struggle if they don’t bring in a new striker in January

What are you talking about?! I’ve just given you the reasons why Vardy didn’t score many in his third season at Leicester which was our first in the premier league. Are you just being stupid for fun?!

Your point is redundant in any case because no matter which season you pick at Leicester, he had a track record, even in non league of scoring 15 goals plus for teams. Does Jiminez? Probably not, he strikes me as a different type of forward - not an out and out finisher which I think you need to compliment him

As for Vardy skying a chance into the stands against Wolves, the difference is he has a a record of scoring over 20 goals at top level football in this country - he’s done it twice. Vardys chance conversion rate is second only to Harry Kane FFS - what’s Jiminez done in Europe before coming to Wolves?

To be fair he is Wolves through and through but just don't disagree with him.

Let’s take stock black Starr and see if you keep digging.

I pointed out that Vardy got 4 in his first season for Leicester and you blamed Pearson. So then I pointed out he only got 6 in his third season and you said you had already explained that

You pointed out Jiminez skied one at Leicester, I pointed out so did Vardy. So in what way does that demonstrate how different they are?

And you rightly pointed out that Vardy had scored goals before he joined Leicester. Actually Jiminez had scored a similar number before he joined Wolves. Vardy got his for Halifax and Fleetwood, Jiminez got his for Benfica and the Mexican national team.

As you correctly point out, this debate has proved one of us is thick

I should point out that I like Vardy and think he has done really well for Leicester in the last few seasons. And over the three matches Jiminez has played for Wolves I think overall he has been our best player so far
