I think Lovren gas a job on his hands because they've a very similar skill set.

He's been very assured though and clearly has the trust of the manager and it's nice to see another example of Klopp not panicking in the transfer market.

Amazing considering the injuries he's had.

I don't think playing rb has helped him though. Great that he can play there if needed and all that but he's a cb through and through.

Yeah totally agree about Klopp seeing his worth and Lovrens a decent 3rd option tbh.

Do you notbthink playing out wife will help him understand his on field relationship with his fullback?

Think it’s just getting minutes that count. You can’t get better experience than actually playing.

Like hendos first season playing right wing helped him even if he wasn’t great out wide

Dunno, could help, could hinder.

It'll certainly help experience wise, playing in front of crowds, etc.

He was also at fault for a fair few goals which you can learn from or bottle a bit. Looks like he has a good head on his shoulders though.

Let’s face it, any defender would look good playing next to big Virgil.

Even Chris Smalling or Phil Jones.

He looks assured but there's still a long way to go. There were a couple of dodgy moments against Spurs where Moura beat him down the right and he had hold of him and where he lost the ball in a dangerous area. Eventually the shot hit the outside of the post and Big Virg rescued him the second time with a tackle. His next step is to have the consistency to not get caught out in the first place. Still 21 though - long way to go.

when he moved across and dived in at a RB position vs Moura and it lead to him hitting the post. He still makes the same mistakes in the RB position, was guilty of that a lot there along with trying silly flicks and passes and switching off ball watching and losing his man. He was decent at RB but i always felt he looked more suited as a CB.

I think the opportunity of game time was there at RB and since he'd not long been back from a horrible injury it suited both player and team that he rotated there with the younger TAA. Played well for England whenever hes had chance too.

He clearly had ups and downs there and hopefully learnt a lot from them but hes still extremely young for a CB who usually peak as theyre hitting 30 so at 21 he looks so facking promising. However im sure he will go through bad patches he will have to overcome adapt and learn but hes got time on his side for that.

Hes got the perfect partner to learn from thats for sure.

He's looked assured at CB and I think you have to accept that mistakes like the Moura chance would happen with a young player - just hope he learns from it.

That tackle on Moura in the second half was delicious, loved that

Between Alisson, VVD and Robertson and Milner young players like TAA n Gomez are gna get told whenever they do something good or bad thats for sure. And thats so refreshing, players who know what they're doing and whats expected and aint afraid to tell it and demand it from their team mates. Its like theyre being coached live at times, VVD clappping him for that slide tackle on Moura for example its wonderful.

any games a guy can get will bring him on.

Playing regularly will always improve a player.

Unless you're Moreno, Mignolet and Karius.

I will be annoyed if Lovren just walks back into the team. Gomez has been excellent. He does make the odd mistake but he is young enough to learn. Lovren has no excuses for the head farts he does regularly.

Carra played at right back for a while then went to centre back and it did him no harm.

We have only conceded 2 in 5 games but we haven't really played against any decent strikers this season. Big test will be Tuesday against that diving little rat and co.

I don’t think being RB helped that much, in fact it raised quite a few issues in his game which to be fair he’s had the ability to address.

At the moment he has only got into the team through injury to other players but this time round I would back him to keep his place as he’s come of age as a player now.

Was very unimpressed with Gomez at RB. Was dreading seeing him at CB this season but in all honesty he's been magnificent, whether that's him feeling more comfortable there, a bit more experience, playing with VVD or whatever, he's well impressed all of us I reckon

Gomez has been remarkable this season. I'm gonna be honest I was doubting whether he would actually make it here at all just a few months ago.

Obviously injuries have made it really difficult for him but he also used to have a terrible habit of ball watching on multiple occasions when he played right back.

Only been a few games but there has been absolutely no sign of that this season, he has been exceptional. Is it the VVD effect kicking in again? Those two are loving playing together right now.

I liked him at right back but he didn't have the offensive side that TAA has. Also he did well at left back previous to that. He has looked even better in the centre and I had hoped him would be partnered with VVD from the end of last season. It has now happened and I'm sure he'll stay alongside VVD for years to come.
