I'll be happier if Luke is continuing this form in say 3 months time, he needs to not only stay fit but keep the extra pounds off as well, he played with a bounce last night, showed decent pace and didn't look like he'd get skinned at all, high hopes he can do it as he, in form removes the need to sign a first choice LB, Dalot is still early doors for me, looked good last night and how enjoyable is it to see full backs getting telling crosses into the box? đđ

I have been a little disappointed with Pereira. He was much more impressive in pre-season and having a bigger impact in the games. Hopefully he can bring that through into our competitive games as he beds in. He shouldn't really need more time to settle though given the number of games he has played in La Liga. Perhaps just needs a few more games in the PL to get used to it.
Tbf he is also having to operate in a position that is new to him and one I don’t think he ever operated in in Spain.
The season is still very young though so there’s no need to be concerned yet.

Dunno Kung fu, shaw’s pre leg break form was pretty ordinary at best when you compare him to the like of Robertson or chillwell. I’ll eat my words (a bit) and say he’s come back much better than expected and it’s good to see, but he has a long way to go still before I’d say we couldn’t do with an upgrade, but it’s promising.

I think people are split into two camps about this one!
I recall him being brilliant, loads of pace on the attack and very good defensively. I remember him going on loads of dribbles just like Evra. That’s how he broke his leg, he’d just dribbled past two people and was clattered.
He was so ambitious going forward and it was exciting, that’s what I remember of him.
It doesn’t really matter now, everybody is starting to like him, even you đ the most important thing is that he continues like this and stays injury free.

It’s ridiculous to compare his performances with McT’s!
Pereira was spraying passes all over the pitch against Leicester and did excellently defensively. Only Darmian made more tackles, Pereira made more interceptions and had 91% pass completion. He kept things ticking (58 touches) and also spread play across the pitch.
Jose came straight out after the game and without being prompted, heaped praise on Pereira.

Bit harsh on McT. You have an odd view in that you praise shaw and rate him highly, despite being probably technically worse than McT, and slate a player who’s only had a few games and has been instructed to play defensivley? I’m not comparing either, shaw has had a good start this season to a very poor Utd career, and McT hardly has had a chance.

I haven't seen McT other than his performances for the first team, but do agree that he seems to be treated pretty harshly. He was asked by Jose to play a very specific game, which he obviously did well, as he kept getting picked. There were signs that he can play a more expansive game if he is let off the leash and that is something that Carrick has hinted at when discussing the lad. He did play some good balls forwards at times, but Jose obviously asked him to keep it simple and he perhaps played a little within himself as he settled in.

I disagree, he’s absolutely uninspiring in the way he plays and defensively he hasn’t shown anything spectacular.
Playing in a defensive position doesn’t restrict you from playing one or two adventurous passes. What I find odd is how unambitious he is as a young player. Defensive players can still contribute going forward but his style is just absolutely bland.
There is a very big difference in the way Pereira and McT play for instance. Pereira statistically has proven to be very good defensively, his ball retention has been great and so has his distribution in terms of forward play. He always looks up.
McT is played because he takes minimal risk on the ball, he’s almost passing on responsibility by giving it to somebody else.

-------------------------
He is doing EXACTLY what Jose asks him to do. Read what Jose has said on the matter. During one game the fans groaned because he played a backwards pass when there was a forwards pass and Jose came out after the game and told the fans to moan at him and not McT, as he was only doing what he was instructed. Jose has also praised him for his maturity and going out and following his instructions, which is why he kept on picking him last season. I think that you are judging him unfairly if you are basing your opinion on my solely on his games for the first team. It's Jose that you should be aiming that criticism at.
What Elvis said.
It's bizarre when players get abuse for unwaveringly following instructions, given that from a manager's perspective it is probably the single most important trait you want in a player.
It's been the same with Mata ( "Why does he cut in all the time?!" ), Valencia ( "Why does he never take on his fullback?!" ) and Lingard ( "Why does he even get picked?! ) for months and years.
People just see what they want to l.
On Pereira vs McT... The former is vastly more gifted technically. Last night Pereira went on a little jinking run where he looked like he might lose it but had the quick feet to keep it. I think he went past three players. He's got that bit of flair and skill in his locker that I hope we get to see a bit more of.
I don't like to write players off, but from what I've seen, I'm not sure McT has enough raw ability to be a United player long term. I hope I'm wrong, because if he can go up a level or two he could be a very good squad player, possibly in the mould of Nicky Butt or a Darren Fletcher.

We haven’t seen what he could do. Perhaps he’s not good enough? But let’s face it when he played last season he was asked to do a specific defensive job by Jose, and was disciplined in doing it. We do t know if his instructions were to keep it simple and break up play which would not surprise me given out manager. He may have many more strings to his bow, if allowed to express it.
Far to early to write him off..

There were signs that he can play a more expansive game if he is let off the leash and that is something that Carrick has hinted at when discussing the lad. He did play some good balls forwards at times, but Jose obviously asked him to keep it simple and he perhaps played a little within himself as he settled in.

I only wish players like Martial and Pereira are shown the same kind of trust.
...............
Pereira has to do something when he is given a chance by Jose. So far he hasn't grabbed any game he has played in by the scruff of the neck.
Yes he looks neat and tidy, but so does McT. Both youngsters need to do more.

McT on the other hand is the most bland footballer to come out of our youth system. He can’t pass it long and he can just about pass it short.

I think McT could be decent given a run over time, we haven’t seen the best of him.

Exactly. Far too harsh on the lad when he’s not had a proper chance to show what he can do..

Pereira is decent for me but nothing more. Will gladly be proved wrong but not sure he’ll ever be a regular here

How many games have you seen him play?

We'll hopefully see McT and Pereira next week against Derby with more appearances for Dalot as well.

I don't think he even has enough to be a mid table starter.
