1.2bn or 850m, is it really worth it.

Spurs have their most talented side for a generation and it looks like they are hamstrung with the cost of the stadium. Very real chance this team will stagnate if the stadium costs affect squad strengthening.

Shame really. It's been nice to see teams like Arsenal, United and Chelsea forced out of the top 4. Seems like this could be an opportunity missed by Spurs

Don’s gonna love this.

It’s pretty amateur on Levy’s part if true.

Think this is the main article?

Tottenham insist suggestions of £1.2bn final stadium bill are inaccurate

Tottenham Hotspur still believe they can complete the club’s new stadium for under £1billion, despite the rising cost of delays and gloomy predictions of construction experts.

Sources within the construction industry claim Spurs face a bill in the region of £1.2bn to complete their new stadium because of delays and chairman Daniel Levy’s decision not to negotiate a fixed-price deal with contractor Mace.

Had Levy signed a fixed-price contract for the delivery of Tottenham’s stadium, which had been valued at £850million, then it would have been Mace and not the club who would have paid for any delays and the additional associated costs.

That was the case when Multiplex found themselves liable for the increased costs of building Wembley after signing a £326.5m fixed-price deal.

Spurs are yet to put a completion date on the new stadium, but it is unlikely to be ready until the New Year and there have even been claims the team might not move into it until next season.

Multiplex had told Tottenham and Levy that it would be impossible to deliver the new stadium before December 2018 when the contract was still out to tender and that estimate now appears more accurate than the club’s desire to finish it quicker.

Levy is now in the tough position of trying to oversee the completion of the new stadium while trying to stop costs spiralling out of control.

One construction expert has told Telegraph Sport that Tottenham face a final bill of around £1.2bn, putting the project more than £300m over budget, but the club dispute this.

Spurs claim the construction cost has not dramatically increased as a result ofthe delays because the nature of the work has not changed and there has not been a need to pay workers overtime in other areas with the completion date now pushed back.

Levy’s hands-on approach to the management of the stadium project has also caused conjecture with one onsite source telling Telegraph Sport ‘he even wants to design the toilets’.

The presence of Tottenham owner Joe Lewis, who spends most of his time in the Bahamas, in London for the past three weeks has sparked speculation that he has demanded answers over the stadium delays and could be open to a sale of the club.

Sources close to Lewis, though, insist he has been in London ‘for other’ business and Tottenham are not aware of any interest from prospective buyers.

Telegraph Sport understands intermediaries have been talking with Middle Eastern businessmen about the possibility of making an offer in the region of £2bn to buy Spurs, but the club are not currently considering any proposals.

Tottenham remain in talks with companies regarding the naming rights of the new stadium, which Levy values at upwards of £200m.

This has caused an issue with interested parties, including HSBC, whose chairman Mark Tucker previously worked as chief executive for AIA – Tottenham’s shirt sponsor.

It would also put HSBC in an awkward position to align themselves with one club, while still trying to work with some of Tottenham’s Premier League rivals.

It also suggests bids of upto £2bn from Misdle East being encouraged. Which would shed light on the article from yesterday.

Doesn’t make for good reading. And would explain the lack of transfers.

The best option is for Levy & Lewis to simply sell the whole sorry mess, Stadium, team, management etc as a business package to some Chinese Billionaire who want to "do an Ambramowitz" and make a splash in European football.
Would be best for the fans too.

Oh and it doesn't need to be Chinese either. Any Billionaire with Ambition will do.
I'm a fan who just wants to see Spurs win something before I depart.

Stop grizzling Ted, you have seen Spurs win plenty. Just get on wit supporting the team like I do.

I wouldn’t be surprised if someone buys us now with the new stadium, top class training facilities and the squad and manager we have etc

posted on 22/9/18

Please someone buy us out. I don't care anymore about us doing it the right way and City/Chelsea being cash cows. What's it got us? Nothing!!! It's the way to go with football these days. Get Levy and Enic out!!!! Been campaigning for years in regards to Levy being a negative influence and it looks like all my opinions are starting to shed light with this ridiculous stadium scenario and transfer issue.

Ffs what an actual farce. Staggering incompetence from the so-called Messiah. The Ja606 Levy Defence team will be out in force soon to denounce this as ‘fake news’ or blame it on some other factors though.

Levy's legacy as a great businessman diminishes by the day.

This stadium project encapsulates him. Wanting things done as cheaply and quickly as possible without giving much thought to how feasible it actually is.

I know this may get pooh pooed and I’m not treating by it as gospel but surely there’s no smoke without fire. The regularity of these articles also seem to be quite alarming.

posted on 22/9/18

Won’t be that simple just selling the club. Especially as Levy will blatantly massively overvalue them.

posted on 22/9/18

I don’t buy to much I to these stories, they weren’t around till we lost 3 games and the stadium was delayed.

Well, thank God for Erik Lamela!
We managed to hang on for a win, at last.
