Yesterday was a wake up call, It wasn't a bad result in the grand scheme of things but our lack of quality was evident.
——
This, for me yesterday highlighted all our weaknesses. Slow full backs who struggle to provide width, little goal threat and poor defensively bar Rudiger. I think Azpi will/must improve defensively though
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think Azpi needs to improve going forward, he was hardly a threat yesterday, it ended up being Kante on the right wing for a lot of our attacks.

I think both our full backs lack the pace to go up and down which is a problem when both wingers want to come inside all the time. A huge lack of width was evident yesterday.

I hear Jorginho broke some passing record, thought he was poor yesterday. Lots of sloppy passing and I didn't realise he was so slow.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I’d love to see what Emerson and even Zappacosta can do. I know a lot of people don’t rate Zappa, and even though I concede he’s wildly inconsistent he is capable of good attacking performances and delivery. I actually think he’d also do well as an impact sub. Long term he should probably go and replace him with one of our many talented young RBs

Agree with the Jorginho pass thing, annoying on twitter when you just see a new stat showing how many passes he’s completed and no reference to his actual performance. Very talented player but also gotta work hard on his weaknesses if he wants to match the best registas

I don't know anyone who wouldn't rate zappa. near impossible to rate any player when they play half hour every 2 months.

I kind of get it as he embodies the thing we’ve hated our club doing last 4-5 years - a random 30-35m buy on an average middle aged player who won’t get better because we lost out or couldn’t think of any better targets and won’t bring in youth who could probably fulfil the same role. But he’s he does have some good parts to his game

Don't think Zappacosta is too bad, albeit he's played a handful of games. He's definitely quicker than Azpi and will offer more of a threat going forward and he's Italian, they're usually fine defensively. Hope he starts on Wednesday, give Azpi a rest.

Plus he looks like borat so i like him

I genuinely think Zappacosta would be more useful in a Sarri system, He would give us more width than Azpi and unlike Azpi he's wildly unpredictable as a previous poster has said... Pedro and Zappacosta on the right?

Not sure Sarri will drop Azpi and he's also our captain.

I’d go for:

Caballero
Azpi, Christensen, Luiz, Emerson
Kante, Jorginho, Ruben
Barkley, Morata, Hazard

6 changes but still a very strong team.

Azpilicueta and Alonso at both wing backs are our weaknesses going forward IMO. Alonso can pop up with the odd clutch goal but pound for pound he's not a great LB for Sarris system.

Alonso is more of a threat though, he's contributed with a number of goals/assist so far this season.

He's just a bit on the slow side and not the best defensively.

The start of the season couldn't have gone better IMO. We've already learnt so much about this team playing this way going forward. Yeah Sunday was disappointing but it's the type of match we'll have from time to time committing to this style especially in season one of it, growing pains

Win, lose or draw I can't wait for the Liverpool match, haven't looked forward to an isolated game of football in quite some time. Not only is the match itself gunna be awesome, I'm excited to see what this team can do against Pool specifically/against their style of football. For me personally it's a no pressure match as a Chelsea fan, if we get spanked... (1) I'm half expecting it, and (2) we'll uncover some major weaknesses which we need too going into next season and beyond... and if we win, then incredibly we might actually be a title contender this season.

One thing Sarri has done so far, which is a knock on Conte last season (and to an extent Mourinho 2nd reign), he's made supporting Chelsea fun again

No I would have wanted Chelsea to beat West Sham and get 18 out of 18 points before facing Liverpool in Premiership. We made a massive blunder by sending Batshuayi on loan and not signing a quality striker of Icardi,Belotti,Cavani or Lewandowski mould.

Nick

I’ve 5d this article.

I know I am being picky but I do feel CHO could’ve at least made the bench on Thursday and even yesterday, where Pedro wasn’t available and could have at least added something different.

I’m not saying he’d definitely make a difference, but we’ll never know unless we try him plus in spite of him featuring heavily in the Summer, he’d still be a comparative ‘unknown quantity’ and that could work in the lad’s/our favour. Kind like Rooney in 2004 for England

Given what we spent on Morata we were never going to buy another striker of that price...

Bats isn't good enough either

Cheers flash

trying to get the article update and content up on our board. And always good to have a debate.

I agree about CHO, so talented, needs a run.

Have got to agree with DA, it's nice to be able to smile again when watching Chelsea .
Their were times last season, when it was gut wrenching, just hope that we are smiling after these next 2 games.

But I'm sure we will be !

that morata chance was ridiculous, just had to slide it either side of the keeper
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nah he did well lifting it just a great save, 9/10 that goes in Fab just reacted quickly and even then a bit of luck it hit his head and not either side of him. If he shoots low it’s more likely to be saved and would come across as a poor finish
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I cannot agree with a single word of that
When you are so central, all you have to do is slide it either side. You only see a dink finish usually from an angle.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This ^ The hardest place for a keeper to get to is low and wide of him in that situation. A striker low on confidence such as Morata is too aware of the keepers positioning and aims straight at him. Fabianski didn't know he made the save he just ran out and made himself big which is in the keepers manual and credit him for that. This started at Arsenal in the league cup when his one on one's were straight at Cech and continues. He is not using instinct nor logic and hitting and hoping. For those of you who play tennis it's similar to the opponent who is just content to get it over the net and invariably plays it straight at you.

posted on 24/9/18

Hmm might have to watch it again but thoight it came at him so fast he did well to lift it. I would say it was instinct not hit and hope.

I don’t rate Morata in any way, but he was just unlucky with that chance. GK knew nothing about it.

I agree, instinct is exactly what Morata did, either side of Fabianski’s head and it’s a goal. And I think Morata is crap, so no agenda here.

Surely chipping it at him from 3 yards away was the wrong thing to do biggish? Hindsight is a wonderful thing but just slot it either side. The goal is massive when ur so central.

If it’s instinct that’s more of a worry, shows he has no IQ
