What a shame his name isn't Bigglesworth then he could step into the shoes of my boyhood hero Biggles with such stories as Biggles Flies East, Biggles Flies West. Biggles Flies Again, Biggles In The Orient, Biggles Delivers The Goods, Biggles Gets His Men, etc, etc.

Biggles Flies Undone was another popular one.

DJ, I have never been a supporter of the loan system and have stated that fact on here many times. The reason being that it very rarely benefits the players involved. We currently have 27 players out on loan at the moment and I'll guarantee that very few, if any, will come back and challenge for a first team spot, or even come back a better player.

These days, especially clubs in the Premier League, loan out players to get them off their books and hope that other clubs sign them up.

I prefer the way Nuno is dealing with our youngsters and that is, those who he thinks has the ability, has them training with the first team. Gibbs-White and Giles are just two of those such players.

Like I stated before we are a top flight club now and if we're going to add to the squad it will more than likely be payers who cost a lot of money who can better those who are with us now and not those players who have gone out on loan. Many of whom don't even get regular football anyway.

Here's a list of those out on loan:-

Harry Burgoyne (on loan to Plymouth Argyle)
Danny Batth (on loan to Middlesbrough)
Ben Goodliffe (on loan to Dagenham & Redbridge)
Aaron Hayden (on loan to Stourbridge)
Connor Johnson (on loan to Walsall)
Roderick Miranda (on loan to Olympiacos)
Phil Ofosu-Ayeh (on loan to Hansa Rostock)
Jordan Graham (on loan to Ipswich Town)
Christián Herc (on loan to FC DAC 1904)
Sherwin Seedorf (on loan to Bradford City)
Connor Ronan (on loan to Walsall)
Benik Afobe (on loan to Stoke City, made permanent after January)
Aaron Collins (on loan to Colchester United)
Bright Enobakhare (on loan to Kilmarnock)
Paul Gladon (on loan to Sint-Truiden)
Joe Mason (on loan to Portsmouth)
Rafa Mir (on loan to Las Palmas)
Michał Żyro (on loan to Pogoń Szczecin)

FC Jumilla

Jack Ruddy
Sylvain Deslandes
Ryan Leak
Aaron Simpson
Boubacar Hanne
Will Randall
Ben Stevenson
Ming-yang Yang
Donovan Wilson

How many of those do you think will come back a better player and challenge for a place in the first team squad? Most will be moved on after their contracts are up.

Managers/coaches improve a players performance in most cases and Doherty, along with Coady are prime examples of that, not loan deals.

The likes of Doherty, Ikeme, Batth and Hause all benefitted from their loans. I don’t have an ounce of doubt that the players concerned would agree with me saying that.

There are many reasons for sending a player on loan. Sometimes it’s because they have no future here and it’s an opportunity to prove they are worth a chance elsewhere. Afuso Ayeh, Miranda and Mason are examples. With some they have learned all they are going to learn on the training pitch and in the U23s and they are put in a sink or swim situation at another club to prove themselves (or not). Ronan, Enobakhare, Seedorf and Mir are examples. And for the young players loaned it’s because Nuno and the coaches hope it will help their development as it did with Doherty, Ikeme, Batth and Hause earlier in their careers.

The fact that many will end up leaving the club will apply also to most of those not in the first team squad who aren’t sent on loan. You are in a very small minority of people who can’t see the benefit of the loan system, for all the reasons I have given. Nuno clearly sees the benefit, not just for players on the Wolves books but also as some of his best signings initially came here on loan

I was talking to a Villa fan recently about Doug and I likened his situation to McCarthy at Wolves in some ways. Some people moaned about McCarthy here but once we got rid of him the club took quite a few steps backwards before they moved forward again. So it was with Ellis at Villla. A lot of their fans thought he was holding the club back but once he went things got a lot worse and haven’t yet turned for the better.

Be careful what you wish for is a phrase that often applies. And ultimately Ellis will be rembered as a legend at Villa Park

Still staggers me that some can't recognise the part played BY Mick in that downfall, the big fall from the prem was down to him and it was his squad that put us in league one.

Still, some of us wished for better and boy did it pay off

Until we have a debate about the loan system, I don't see how you can put me in the "very small minority" camp.

The Portuguese players and others that have come to Wolves on loan are here with a view to permanent signings and with the help of our super agent. That's totally different to your argument about players we have sent out on loan to further their careers and make them better players. We have kept our good ones and they are part of our squad for this season. Many have featured in the recent cup games. That's what I call developing our youngsters.

I'm prepared to wager a bet that most, if not all of those out on loan now, will not feature for Wolves again. Those on loan at Jumilla are a joke, as most of them are not getting any game time at all.

posted on 11/10/18

Actually, I'll take that back about Jumilla, as they have now started to play our loan players, after a bad start to their season.

Wolfie, howcome (living in the moonshine state) you know more than the STH and some ‘ere’ ?

A wee bit of research Sir Halfy.

Conor Ronan, not selected for the R of I u21's. Another example of players going backwards. Iorfa, was a regular for the England U21's, now playing in our U23's and one we couldn't move on in the summer.

Patricio and Neves start for Portugal, with Costa on the bench.

Liechtenstein U21 0 - 7 Portugal U21 at the moment.

Vinagre on as a 66th minute sub.

Jota on as a 79th minute sub and scores after 84'

Otto on bench for Spain.

Jonny made his Spanish debut tonight, coming on for the final 30 minutes

Great for the club that these players are getting into their national teams. Gives the message to players we approach that their international careers will not be damaged by joining Wolves

Watched the Poland v Portugal match albeit in Spanish.

Great through ball form Neves for their second goal. Had shots from long range and had a solid game on the right side of a three man midfield. Poland's second goal should have been disallowed as the ball clearly went out on the far side and should have been a throw in. Linesman was no ore than 2 yards away.

Yep, good to see Jonny get his first cap and played on the right side of a back four. Great to see so many Wolves players getting International recognition.

Do yourself a favour and block him, as I did a while ago. You then no longer see his posts, and you can enjoy the forum more. It’s very therapeutic.

Worth hunting down the video of Portugal’s game last night to see the sensational pass from Neves to set up their second goal. He seems to have nailed down a place in their team now where he is used as the deep lying midfield player in a 4141 line up

Didn't last long Gem, as you can tell from DJ's comment above. Plus the usual input from our man on Bute Island, who always seems to be DJ's right hand man. Shame certain posters hold a grudge from years back and cannot accept another's opinion on relevant matters.

If you'd watched the game, like I did, you'd have noticed that Portugal played a 4-3-3 system with Neves on the right side of that midfield. That's where his penetrating pass came from to set up their second goal.

England's U21's have qualified for the 2019 Euro Championship for a record 7th straight time. Won 7-0 last night and join Spain and France, who have also qualified. Italy host the competition.

Costa scored 5 mins after coming on as a second half sub and had an assist in the next goal of a 9-0 win. Vinagre was also a second half substitute.

posted on 12/10/18

Neves played as the deep central midfielder in a 4141 for Portugal. Pizzi and Bernardo Silva played on the right of the 4 man midfield

Costa was on the bench for the main Portugal team but didn’t come on. Jota was sub for the U21s and came on and scored
