“I actually think Liverpool might well win today”

We always lose at Anfield, it’s really not much of a stretch to think we will again...

Think this is a game we really needed De Bruyne fit for

Or there's a Tory leadership battle, followed by a hard Brexit, and the horrible little genius is frogmarched onto a plane headed back to the People's Democratic Republic of Catalonia by new PM Jacob Rees-Caaaant.

Fack it. I’ll join him if rees-caaant is in charge.

Lose this and it’s no win in 4

Yeah like that’s gonna happen

Wow. Liverpool played well in all but 1 of our last 3 games. We could have beaten chelsea twice. Its a far far cry from Joses United

It’s October, you don’t have must win games this early and only being 3 points behind at such an early stage means little.

So much depends on how both teams do in the CL too where plenty of points could be lost to concentrate on the later stages of the CL.

After today Liverpool will have played their 3 main rivals (we aren’t one of them) already.

What are you on about you cake?

If you’re equating Derby County, West Ham, and Valencia to Chelsea, Chelsea again and Napoli you really are stupid.

I think Liverpool will win today, go the season undefeated at Anfield but ultimately finish as runners up to City who are just a better side over the long haul.

The one difference I've noticed between the two teams is, City play through the thirds as they have technically gifted players all along the pitch. Liverpool tend to ping a lot of long or diagonal balls to runners like Firm/Salah/Mane. This is because they have an industrious but limited midfield which, as a result, gives them less game plan options than City - ie they don't have a 'plan B' and are a fairly one dimensional team. That one dimension is usually highly effective, but will be ineffective enough over the course of a season to see them drop more points than City.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Even though the liverpool midfield does not compare to Citys it still does a good job in terms of protecting the defence especially this season which is crucial to the way they have been picking up points & you have to respect that.

I actually think a lot of liverpool's problems in the domestic league are more mental & they have a lot of players who dont take their chances. One could say the same about the likes of Sterling & Sane but that is the main difference between Aguero & Firmino.

Liverpool will dominate a lot if not most games domestically. They will struggle in europe in my opinion as teams will prepare for them more than they probably did last season & like Pep said in his press conference, its tough in europe. You dont just rock up at naples, Bara, madrid, Juve & expect to win because you have the best front 3 in football. It doesnt work like that.

Too much attention is paid to the head to head & I like the fact that Jurgen is more pragmatic this season, prepared to even sit back if he has to to protect a result. A lot of the journalists were trying to make it out that because Klopp has Peps number it makes a difference in the context of a 38 game league. This season liverpool must be thankful that Klopp is not too indulged in this personal battle & is looking at the 38 game spread rather than trying to embarass City.

I always feel the most dangerous managers are the points accumulators, like Jose. Those are the managers who dont purely rely on momentum or good form of players, but can pick up the entire squad to contribute in each of the different challenges that a 38 game league provides.Sir Alex was a master at that & Jose to.

No doubt if Liverpool had faced City unbeaten in all competitions and thumped City this afternoon the nation would have gone into overdrive but nobody will call this title race whoever wins this afternoon.

long way to go

God knows which way this will go but am expecting a good game from the best two teams in the league. Actually looking forward to this one more than ours
Expecting envious Manu fans to secretly enjoy too.

It feels like there is real pressure on Liverpool today, possibly for the first time under Klopp, he has had so many free hits on City/Madrid/Sevilla but now there is expectation of victory.

Hope you do win today, and yes, maybe it is a must win

Must win for Liverpool really, will be a failure for Klopp if they don’t win the league this year with all their investment.

If Liverpool draw, they're in a great position. I fancy them to take all three points. But a draw at home to City, combined with a draw at Chelsea and a win at Tottenham, having beaten everybody else they've faced would be indicative of a very good start for Liverpool imo. They don't have to win and I doubt their manager is saying they need to. But I have no doubt they'll try to win the game and ask questions of City all the same

This. We have to win the league because we’ve spent a fortune and no other club has spent money.

This, Klopp's proved he can't win things by not spending big so after jettisoning his principles and spending huge, the pressure to deliver is now greater than ever

Not a must win exactly but I think a defeat would be pretty damaging. It’s City’s consistency and squad depth that make them so difficult to look past for the title.

They broke the record points total last season so unless Liverpool are going to better that (we’re not) then we have to rely on City losing more points than last season. The reality is we need to take points off them ourselves but also rely on others to do so.

Personally I’m just looking forward to the game - all four last year were entertaining in their own way. Albeit the 5-0 wasn’t so enjoyable from my pov...

No it isn't a must win game.

Football does not work that way. Especially in October.

Ok, slightly different but now we’ve got Liverpool must win the league because:

1) spent a lot of money (pride)
2) sold out principles (blobby)

Any more? Or does that cover why Liverpool must win the league?

Second most expensive keeper ever but it makes about as much sense as the other two so I’m happy to add it to the list.

Exactly, Liverpool beat us every year at anfield it wouldn’t be a suprise for the same thing to happen today.

I fully expect it too.

Here’s hoping.
I just don’t think if we are to challenge we cannot let city build up a head of steam or any sort of lead. They go 6 points plus ahead I can’t see anyone catching them
