think austin would fit the cult hero mold.
LIW, being good enough or a top player are completely different.
Baird wasn’t a top player but was good enough for the team he played in.
Don’t normally comment but like this subject. For me Vinnie there was a connection straight away. Kevin Hird if not only for the goal against Brighton played in one of the craziest atmospheres watching leeds.Batty,Radebe,Baird and for me and some of my mates Georg Mc Cluskey.Billy, Lorimer, especially,Eddie Gray are legends of the club along with many others who had success at Leeds but some like Eddie are the tip of the iceberg
I agree Chicken, the atmosphere in those days was electric.
Fine, I'll be the one to open up the can on worms, Alan Smith.
oohh Alan Smith Shaun.. (cover up son, cover up) - you know what he totally could of been mate, I don;t see him that way, but I want to.
Radebe.. I can't believe I forgot about him
Tony Yeboah
Vinnie Jones
Speed, Batty, Strachan, Gary Mac, are legends for me. Part of an incredible team who won the league - all played 200-300 games for the club.
For me a cult hero is one who has a unique connection with fans, not necessarily related to ability.
In addition to those already mentioned, the omission of a recent player comes to mind - David “Jesus” Prutton.
Prutton is a good shout. Recognition also for Andrew Hughes, who bled football, and Patrick Kisnorbo for his bandage. Never forgot the cheers every timer Sam Sodje stooped to win the ball with his head.
Big difference between legends and cult hero. Don't think a legend needs to have won something just someone that when you think of a club, that player comes to mind.
Different people will have different players as legends, because of different expectations, attitudes and the like.
Pontus Id probably say as well from our current squad.
