Good luck, Beeb, hope they nab the bast*rd fullly this time.

Just turned 50 this summer. I think I'll be taking your advice. It's about time I got checked by someone other than my cardiologist.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think you want to take a very careful look at your cardiologist’s credentials if he has been checking your prostate mate

Good luck to you.

I'm a few years off 40, so I might check it out when I'm in the UK again. There is no privacy in hospitals in China.

Thanks guys for all of your best wishes. It really does mean a lot to me.

Go to your doctor and tell them that you want to get checked out. It's probable that your GP will do an instant check to see whether or not your prostate is enlarged - the lubed finger bit. All over in forty seconds.

You will then have a blood test which will tell you your PSA level. Anything between zero and four is considered normal. Anything over that and you will be monitored on a 3-monthly basis thru more blood tests.

If you present with a high PSA level (say, plus nine) you will probably be advised to have a biopsy. This is, in essence, just like the initial finger exam but takes tiny samples from around twelve different areas around the prostate.

The results of the biopsy will determine whether or not the cancer is malignant.

If you are in good hands, you will also be sent for MRI and CAT scans to determine whether or not the cancer has already spread to the bones and/or lymph nodes - the most likely problem areas if the cancer has indeed meta-stasised.

Depending on your PSA level, and how fast the level is rising, you may be put on medication, or have an operation to remove the entire prostate - as in my case.

We knew, after the first post-op blood test that they hadn't got it all. I have now progressed onto daily Radiotherapy in an effort to kill it off once and for all.

If that doesn't do the trick, it looks like it'll be Chemo therapy for me. That doesn't bear thinking about.

I will not regale you with the awful side-effects for anyone whose cancer has progressed as far as mine. So please go and get checked out. The earlier the better. If caught early, you should have a happy life on one pill a day.

Don't leave so long that it becomes a problem for you, too.

Once again, many thanks for your support, guys.

I have this mate and she was on chemotherapy, and spent all day arguing with people about football and the more abuse she got the more it took her mind off it.

She’s now cancer free, god could she dish out the abuse.

Good luck with your recovery mate, I'm sure you'll be fine

I had a scare a month or so back - one ball (apparently the T word is banned ) was abnormally large compared to the other
Went for an ultrasound scan and it's a buildup of fluid caused by a small cyst

Waiting to see my GP now as to how we proceed, if indeed there's anything that can be done non-invasively
