Alexis as a number 9 is techinally better then Rashford and Lukaku. But Rashford's lightening speed frightens defences ans he has a deadly right foot.

Seeing Sanchez just doing the basics up front (holding it up, laying it off) just goes to show how much we need a forward who can do that and score/create goals. It's not likely to happen but Harry Kane would be an excellent Mourinho striker (well for anyone really). Mandzukic also wouldn't be a bad short-term option either.

I'm not completely writing off Lukaku though but to get to the very top level he needs to improve his touch impose himself more on the opposition defence.

Sanchez kept giving it away, though. Off the ball he was good, yet again on the ball he continued to frustrate. I think it just goes to show how piiiiissedoff people are with Lukaku that Sanchez is being praised for average to above average performances up front the last two games.

Didn't give it away as much as he does from wide though and at least he made himself available for the pass whereas Lukaku all too often is on his heels.

You are right though that all it has taken is a few decent performances from Sanchez up top to really realise that Lukaku needs to up his game considerably. Hopefully he does it as that can only benefit United.

Probably because he had less of the ball to give it away. If Lukaku had performed similarly (with the ball) to Sanchez I think he’d have come in for a lot more criticism. Sanchez’s work off the ball is the defining factor in what a difference there is to the dynamic of the attack, and it’s where Lukaku lags well behind.

Against City I think Sanchez will have to really up his game to have a big impact on the game as we are likely to see far less of the ball as we have the last two games.

I agree with Robb in that an on-form Lukaku does have his uses - in the right situations and/or against the right opponents - but right now they seem restricted to handing out the half-time oranges.

Sanchez will be pumped for the City game given Pep's digs at him after he signed for us instead of them.

Plus he's shown promise playing as a no.9 and clearly Martial's output hasn't been hindered by not having a targetman to play alongside.

If Jose starts with Lukaku on Sunday, I'm literally going to smash the TV. Lukaku will be hopeless against a high pressing team like City. We'll never get out our own half with him up top

Which two games has Sanchez been MOTM in?

Rashford ffs..how many sitters does he miss.

1-3 would have been a sweeeeet result

Lack of confidence is obvious. A confident player chips the keeper there instead of going for power. That's what happens when you are in and out of the team and chopping and changing positions.

Still, I'd rather have Rashford over Lukaku.

Loved the way that chance came about though. Rashford and Martial combining - that’s what we want to see.

I still prefer Rashford to Sanchez.

I don’t think it’s a confidence thing, it’s just how he shoots, he’s always lacing it with power. Needs to improve his shot selection. See the chance against Bournemouth where he smashed it straight at Ake. Needs to learn when to use placement and when to use power.
