Hard to say.
The bigger issue for me is Matic has a mare every game and still plays.
Jose will now drop Herrera.
Worst player on the pitch yesterday I thought. Really offered absolutely nothing.
It’d be easy to suggest that he could do with a run of games to get himself up to speed having been somewhat peripheral in terms of team selection this season, but firstly, he’s had more of that in recent weeks, and secondly, lack of game time hasn’t stopped him being brought in and used successfully as a specialist before.
I think yesterday was probably just a bad day at the office for him. Might have been different if he’d had more mobile and lively options around him with either Mata or Lingard in midfield. At least then he’d have had an easier, quicker out-ball more often.
GT
Not really. He managed it two seasons ago.
I’ve always found it odd you play him where you do (you do seem to like buying players and then converting them to play in a different position, although Guardiola does that too!). He was an attacking mid, and a good one, when he was at Bilbao.
well the simplest answer would be he had a good game against Bournemouth(half a good game) who are no where near as good as juve/city?
Never really like Herrera. Never a Utd type of player. He is way too negative. Last night was not thinking once passing forward kept giving the ball to smalling. Always shy of passing forward and leaves it to others
He was poor. Let me down big time. But my word Matic was diabolical.
As suspected, when everyone saw the team sheet, the midfield was the worry.
Matic had a dreadful game, Herrera not much better. Fellaini at times looked like a better technical footballer yesterday than the others yesterday which told the story.

Pass it forward to who?
Our entire midfield was anchored to our defence which left the front 3 abandoned and easy to shut down
What do you want him to do? Just lump it as far forward as possible and hope Rashford wins the race for the ball
When is Fred going to get a run in the team? Kind of feel sorry for him.
a midfield consisting of matic and fellaini against anyone in the pl never mind city is asking for trouble, you don't have to extremely talented to be able to harass and pressure them and then just basically walk by them as they cant run, im surprised mourino didn't go with mctomany with the other 2 giants yday

Not saying lump it forward. I would like to see Herrera pass the ball forward even if he gets it straight back. Look at Scholes and carrick role when they played. They kept passing it forward. It’s all about pass and move. With Herrera once he gets the ball I’ll pass back to smalling and run up the pitch so I don’t get the ball again. Few mins later repeat
What made it worse yesterday the likes of b. Silva and sterling kept winning tackles when there are not def good. Puts a shame to our players the amount of time city attacking players won the ball

Yeah it’s odd, LVG publically stated that he wasn’t a #10 (in the Litmanen mould) which was why he played him a little deeper. Then when Jose came he felt he didn’t have good enough options at DM so deployed Herrera there and he did quite well a couple seasons back. Ever since he’s always been a bit part and seems to be considered more of a DM than anything else.
I don’t know what the guys like in training but on the pitch he seems to one of the few players who is vocal and wants to lead, qualities I always thought Jose wanted in his players. But for whatever reason doesn’t seem to rate him enough?

Problem with Fred I think is that him and Pogba haven't really developed much of an understanding. When they play in a midfield 3 together, Fred operates his own 1 man press (presumable against instructions) and Pogba roams as he does. As a result we've looked wide open in the middle every time they are together.
In saying that, I really thought yesterday was a game for Fred to come in, in Pogba's absence. The front 3 really needed a midfielder behind supporting them and Fred has the legs to do it.
Put simply, Herrera is good enough for our level. Make no mistake we are nowhere near City and we have to accept that.

its amazing eh, we've spent more than them yet look at the gap between the two sides, when we spend 40mill-50mill we buy guys like linlelof, matic, when they spend that(actually less) they get players like jesus, b silva, laporte
Much like Pereira he just isnt very good and lacks a position.
Saying that Id rather start those two than Matic and Fellaini.

Jose wanted exp he was never here for the long term only for his own success and move on to next time. Later he can brag he won titles with 2 different clubs

exp can be good, you also need actual talent with that experience, juventus for example are a very experienced team but their players are actually good and despite us beating them last week they are a much better team than us
I felt it was Herrera's worst game in a Utd shirt.
However it was against the best team we've played this year and it wasn't as if his performance let the rest of the side having 10/10 games down.
Also bear in mind he has been one of our better players in recent games despite having a bit part role so far this year. In typical Jose fashion he'll be back to the bench until the New Year now.
The focus here should be on the manager I think. Did he honestly believe Matic, Fellaini and Herrera was the answer to combat the movement, thinking, creativity and passing of the City midfield? Then as per usual complaining about Pep spending money, whilst our 4th highest ever signing never left the bench because he is a dud.

Of course they are. VC tried to reason with some idiots here going overboard about how concerning that performance was, but as usual the normal idiots were calling it negative.

Wasn't on here during the Juve game as I just wanted to enjoy the occasion but that game was the biggest robbery Utd have got away with in my time as a supporter. Should have got a hammering, weren't outclassed like that in Europe since Bayern away under Moyes.
Vc called the immobile midfield yesterday although once you saw who was playing stevie wonder could have told you what was going to happen.
