So ours is a democracy because after the fixed term ends an election takes place to elect the next prime minister.
The eu is not a democracy because after the fixed terms ends an election takes place to elect the next president.
---------------------------------------------------------
We I can put a vote in a ballot box for our next Government, the same cannot be said for the next EU president or it's commisioners!
Jeez, never thought this would be so hard!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Who appoints our chief justice's? never see a ballot for them.
Nor for whom should be with or without portfolio, MPs are elected to be MPs why dont we get to choose who is foreign minister, i mean how many would have voted for Boris Johnson to be that?
UKs head of state is the Queen, who elected this royal family? just a power and land grab from overseas powers around 1066 wasnt it?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why bring the Queen into it? You and I both know the Monarchy is just a figure head, is absolutely nothing to do with this and wields no great power!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Dont make facking excuses mate, still wields a huge amount of influence and its a fair question.
Raised the same question about cabinet ministers and the judiciary too.
in your own time.. ta.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There's little point debating with someone who tries to score little wins bringing the Monarchy into this is there?
We all know cabinet ministers are appointed by the Prime Minister and we all know the elected party will fall on their sword on the performances of those cabinet ministers, should they fail to deliver!
While you're being so pedantic, perhaps you could suggest alternate methods of installing them.
Maybe a separate election for the Home Secretary.
A separate election for the Foreign Minister.
A separate election for the Minister for Defence.
A separate election for the Chancellor of the Exchequer.
A separate election for the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care.
A separate election for Secretary of State for Transport.
A separate election for Education.
I could go on but I think you'll get the idea!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
triggered much because your argument falls down when relating it to British/Franco/German institutions that are varying degrees of being undemocractic, but thats ok in your book as its been about a millenium for some of those!
So yes, the british people have been lorded over by aristocrats of European origin for a thousand years, mistreated and led into war by families of the same, but we would tell the EU we dont like aspects of the EU that appear as undemocratic.

That just sounds like the ramblings of a madman - if that's your reply then I know you have no logical or sensible reply.
Also of note all cabinet ministers have to be elected into the House of Commons by being an MP voted by their constituents, without it they lose their position.
No doubt that won't fit in to your unique ideal utopian hierarchy either.
I suppose this will also trigger some bizarre garrulous speech about Teutonic, Hellenic or Gallic ancestry that's totally irrelevant as well.
Well knock yourself out!

So prime ministers live and die on their democratic appointments of cabinet members (unvoted by the public) and assistants (such as olly robbins, overseeing the brexit mess, unvoted for by the public)
But they shouldnt live or die based on their completely undemocratic appointment of a commissioner (unvoted for by the public) or European president (unvoted for by the public)

Sorry I meant public General elections, not in house, closed door elections.
It’s a flaw in the system of democracy.
MEPs are voted for by the people
Royal family aren't but MPs and MEPs are subservient to them.
If you want to be consistent about non-democratic aspects of society, you'd want to start with the royal family that have been in situ for a millennium.
MEPs make the choice of commissioners to the EU just like the PM makes choices of whom becomes head of which ministry.
which is more democratic that from a group of MEPs or that on the whim of one (Prime Minister)?
Or is it the problem that MEPs can come from whichever domicile of Europe? (not indifferent to the royal family)
Redinthehead, I respect your opinion but you are just strawmanning Brummie's argument.

And now back to football matters.
Thanks for all the support!
Unelected Gaulieters run the EU, you can argue until you are blue in the face that Elected MEPs by rubber stamping their appointment make them elected it is stretching belief.
British democracy has developed over many years, before it was accepted on the continent. They have mainly moved from Monarchy via revolution, and dictatorship in one form or another to reach democracy.
Their conception of democracy and law is at odds with our own.
The EU is made up of failed politicians and 'technocrats' their objective a federal state run by the political elite who know better than the plebs.
Their EU construct is the method by which they are taking control of sovereign nation states.
When we first had a referendum we were voting for a trade deal, with no idea of what we were letting ourselves in for.
After years of being sold down the line by our own political elite, Major, Blair, you know he had hopes of being the EU president, we have given the Government a mandate to get us out.
And what do they do, deliberately F-it up.
As I said TGFA is the Gordian Knot, the solution cut the knot, let them erect the hard border when we leave without a bad deal on the 29th, take the hit and be happy that we are free from foreign rule.
Don't come back at me with we didn't vote to be worse off, we all knew, the government told us infinitum.
Freedom comes with a cost, in the week of remembrance ask those who died's loved ones about paying the cost.

So yes, the british people have been lorded over by aristocrats of European origin for a thousand years, mistreated and led into war by families of the same, but we would tell the EU we dont like aspects of the EU that appear as undemocratic.
have a facking word with yourself.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That just sounds like the ramblings of a madman - if that's your reply then I know you have no logical or sensible reply.

U#16342,
Can you please change your username?
Having read a number of your comments on multiple threads over the last few days, I find your disturbing opinions about most topics incongruous with Sufjan's. You are doing a disservice to his good name.

Whats a sufjan?
Well I think you are doing a disservice to the name Dave, most geezers I know with that name are top blokes!
