I think his spurs side have reached their peak and without money to spend he simply a cannot build a new side, or freshen it up at all.

I think he'd be interested, although I don't know for sure. I said all summer that was our chance to go for him. He was clearly frustrated with the transfer policy and must have known about the stadium issues.

United will break the bank to get him and Kane.

We should get a DoF in before an appointment. I like him and Jardim. Either would look to be better than what we have right now. I would prefer we sack Jose now and get in Jardim until at least the end of the season.

I'm really not sold on Poch. That Spurs team should be winning trophies.

He would be a huge step up from Jose however.

Yep it's obvious we'll go for Poch. If it does happen it will be in the summer though, which means we are stuck with Jose until then. Unless we can find someone happy to be a 6 month interim, and I can't think of anyone.

I'm not so sure about this popular idea that there's some magic difference between a manager who can make teams better and a manager who can make them better and also win trophies. So we're expected to believe that there's some quality the manager has that deserts him when he's in a cup final?

There are so many examples of managers who don't win anything for ages and then do win something, and managers who win stuff early on but then don't, and managers who have a patchy record of success and failure throughout their careers. Ranieri was a good manager but a loser until he won the league with Leicester.

It seems more likely that we'll go where we want to be if we have a coherent strategy for footballing development, with all aspects of the organisation (recruitment, physical preparation, DoF, scouting, youth development and head coach) are all being run by the best people we can find, are well resourced, and working to exactly the same strategy.

If we have that situation, I don't think something like the head coach's past record in cup finals is much of a predictor.

Why would a manager who still has a good rep want to go to the sh*ytshow that is OT??

The same reason players flocked to the Emptyhad for 10 years. Money.

I guess doubling salary might have some influence.

But Kamikaze unwittingly raises a valid point. I'd have thought the club would be a more attractive destination for a manager (as well as getting better ROI on future expenditure) if the new coach was brought into a reformed management structure with a rigorous strategy and all the support he requires to succeed.

Maybe because Manchester United is by far and away the biggest club in the country, absolute bag full of cash, in front of a full stadium pretty much every week and managing a world famous football club snd the only club known in Manchester

Also why call yourself python? It’s just weird, are you similar to crawling vermicular or do you constrict and kill your prey by crushing them?

Anyway onto the article in hand before work derails it

I think poch would jump at the chance tbh. He isn't going to get any hefty budgets at Spurs because of the finances on their stadium. That is going to hamper them for quite a long time IMO. You can't tell me they just didn't fancy buying anyone in the summer. Poch or Zidane will be our manager next summer IMO

Poor old Python gets confused, didn't he mix up our two great hospitals Hope and Salford Royal a while back? He has a point - there are attractive things about the Man United job. My point is that for the last three holders of that post it is career over. Must make ambitious and established managers think twice. On the bright side you're not quite in BFS territory yet.

So you’re going to double Poch wages? That would probably make him the highest earner at £16m a season

That Spurs team should be winning trophies.

-

That's a bit disingenuous when you look at the teams they're competing against for trophies.

Poch would be my choice. I think the club is a perfect fit for him. Has a history of youth development, will have the money to spend to compete, a long term appointment. If he does get the job though, I hope the club let the fans know that it is part of a long term strategy. If I recall correctly, it took Poch a while to implement his ideas at Spurs and Southampton. With his high intensity game and our own stats regarding sprinting and ground covered, it could take longer here.

His lack of trophies doesn't really bother me. As long as were are playing the right way I think he will eventually win stuff here. Will be difficult for anyone though with Pep still at City.
