Anyway, back to Maurizzio, must have been a good HT team talk.
We really need him to succeed if we want to see attacking football flourish at the Bridge again after a few years worth of negative football.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Maybe I am wrong, but I didn't feel we were negative in Conte's first season. I liked the football we played to win the title.
And Sarri needs a striker ASAP if he and his football is to flourish

It was - but the 2nd season!!!
Should have started Emerson. Would have won 2-1.
soccer?lol.
Very lucky today and poor tactically. But our good players stepped up. Again.
Azpi, Kante and hazard were fantastic.
Over the moon but makes the wolves defeat even harder to take
RLC should have started instead of Willian but he worked quite hard v Man City. Also,I would have loved to play Giroud instead of Hazard as a striker upfront.
IMHO Sarri cannot be criticised for the result. Any change to that line up could have changed the outcome and we may have lost.. I too was critical pre match that Giroud wasn't starting the game as he would be a good outlet when we needed to clear balls high high out. Sarri picked the most hardworking players he had. They ran themselves into the ground denying city where they could. Some times we were fortunate and relied on last ditch tackles but all the same it worked. Cannot criticise his lineup to tactics

Apart from the false number 9 selection i don't see what was wrong tactically?
Bov, City were playing so high, it was crying out for a CF in my view. Hazard was wasted, he hardly had a sniff all game.
I for one was very pleased that neither Giroud or more importantly Morata were nowhere near yesterday's game
No Hazard didn't work as false 9 really, I'd have thought Rubes would've been a better bet, maybe not from the start but at least 2nd half, he came on eventually which was good from Sarri
Also our midfield three are far too similar...Rubes & or Barclay need to be used in there more

I think a change in personnel could change the result? I'm giving Sarri credit. That side got us 3 points. Can't ask for more.
It worked on the day but not because playing Hazard as a false 9 worked, in fact if you dissected it, then it didn't work as a system, as Hazard was pretty ineffectual.
It is what it is though and it's no blame on Sarri that he doesn't have a CF in the house and is trying all the tools at his disposal.
I'm glad the team dug in and got the result but the idea is not the way ahead.
Spot on Brum. Let’s see what January holds in store

Big reason why the defending worked yesterday was because we had both Willian and Pedro, who worked tremendously hard defending.
Move Hazard onto the left, and then defensively we are a lot weaker.
For me yesterday would have been too hard to accommodate Hazard and a striker.
I said it before the game we should play without a striker, thankfully we did. Giroud and Morata would’ve been useless in that game.
Hazard held the ball up fine and won a lot of FKs. Pretty sure he won more headers then Morata has even won as well.
Conte got slaughtered last season for playing Hazard as the striker
Well Conte got slaughtered for going there and not looking to play football. Was happy to just lose by a goal. Didn’t look to make changes until very late and brought on a defender for an attacker.

Exactly. Not double standards when what you're comparing is so different.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Was it really any different for the first 40 minutes when we were pinned back in our 1\3 of the pitch.
We would only know how different it was if City scored first goal. Conte did nothing to get us back in the game. Would Sarri? Who knows but I'd hope so

Yes I believe it was different, yesterday we were pinned back by City's superiority. That game we turned up with no intent to make a game of it at all.
I have the same view as before Man City match with Chelsea about Sarri and his several wrong team selections and tactics.
