There was actually quite a good discussion on Talksport about this on Saturday. There were a few journos on trying to defend themselves and sounding very awkward about it. Sterling has certainly had some bad press over the years and I agree with what he has said bout how young black players are often portrayed in the press.

I've enjoyed how much of the discussion around this has been conducted by middle class, middle aged white men. I think that fairly reflects how things are. I mean, who could understand racism against young black players better than middle class, middle aged white men?

Stop it. Those fifty year old man have been racist all their lives. They really don’t need to see Sterling splashing his cash to get angry.

Nonsense about black players. Where is the potrayal rashford, lingard, delph, sturridge, gomez, alexander-arnold, sancho, young, bertrand all other black England players?
Where was the race campaign when you had thd likes of rooney, grealish, beckham in the media constantly?
Never seen sterling racially abused by the media all this subconcious racism is absolute bollox pedalled by the race card snowflakes imo

so I guess that includes sterling the snowflake who said himself he was racially abused by fans and then gave a pretty good example of the 2 news stories depicting how players of different colour are reported just for a buying a house

For you to call it nonsense is a joke in itself!
Just because you name a few black players, it doesn't mean that haven't experienced racism, i bet they ALL have at some point.

Snowflakes, do people still use that term ffs 🤦‍♂️

Rooney, Beckham etc are huge huge names, they are in the papers because their names sell papers. Tosin Adarabioyo is not a huge name, and the comparison with Foden is pretty damning.

Sterling 100% gets it more from the media, partly because he dared to leave Liverpool.

That was by 2 different journalists and nothing in either story mentions about race and everything factual. One player has played 13 league games the other zero. Imo both are non stories anyway

I love how people trying to defend the stories main point was foden was a player who had made starts? wtf has that got to do with buying a house? for all we know tosin was making more than foden on his contract so if anything he was in a better financial position to but a multi million pound property for his parents

Well that's also nonsense that your talking about too then numnuts because Raheem has clearly given you an example of the racism in the media, which anyone with half a brain has seen it happening to Raheem for a few years now.

I think that example of Foden and that other academy player is a little dubious. Foden is the potential golden boy of England. He was the player of the tournament when we won the World Cup and is getting some game time for City while Pep raves about him.

The other lad basically has done nothing.

Clearly missing the point, no one says the media is racially abusing black players. Read the facking article, it says the media is fueling racism. They even posted examples. Big difference, but don't let that stand in the way of you making a complete donkey out of yourself.

I think it more of a class issue when the likes of the Daily Mail start focusing on issues regarding money in football, and the lifestyles of young footballers, who predominantly come from working class backgrounds.
Grealish spends x amount on a bar bill, outrage, Andy Carroll is a xhav, with no taste, and the Rooneys were working class $c..u..mbags, who shouldn't have been allowed to be on a yacht in the south of France, because some of them are overweight, and it just isn't acceptable for them to be there having fun.
This isn't to say that some journalists do not have an agenda against certain players, which some obviously do.
Wether or not this is down solely to the colour of their skin, is another issue.

The question is, had Rooney, Grealish and Beckham actually done things that were worthy of being reported in a negative light? In most instances the answer is yes.

As Sterling has said, the problem comes when you have a story about a black lad buying his mum a house and the paper goes with the angle of how he hasn't even played for City. Yet Foden has done the same thing and he is described as securing his mum's future. The young white lad is getting what he deserves, but wait, what is this young black man doing with all this money? How dare he?

and again this has zero relevance to their ability to buy a house

I think there is a lot of validity in the argument that it's about class rather than colour to be fair.

The perception of it is still around race though, and I presume that has an impact on a lot of black (and other ethnic) people.

Compare the Foden article to the one where Sterling bought a house for his mum then.

I was talking about the actual headlines. Which were going along the lines of having never played a game. Basically imo the article is all about the ridiculous money in football rather than the players skin colour. Why did the Foden one even need reporting either?

The thing is Foden, Stones, Kane and co. listen to Michael Buble and will be found at Christmas wearing matching, colourful jumpers with their childhood sweethearts.

The Press hold it against Sterling, Lingard and co. when they listen to grime, wear reading glasses and skirts and because of their sexual exploits.

Its not racism it’s more a lack of identification.
