I don’t really follow lower league racism, but in the Premiership, I have actually been quite impressed with the lack of racism from our fans, despite Neil McCann buying almost exclusively coloured gentlemen, who do not know how to play football. The worst I heard were implied kind of stuff like “They dinnae ken what it’s all aboot”. Never heard anything from other fans either. Only one of the coloured gentlemen play now because he can actually play football.

You know what bugs me more than casual racism like in the Op

We are seeing a rise in "normal" people becoming right wing as a result of the media trying to outrage them with "they want to ban christmas in case it offends people" shiiite. There's a new one every day as they know people share it so it's an easy win.

Then there is the BBC being forced to be overly PC and inclusive, leading readers to believe that this is the norm. A story about a child being confused about their gender and how we need to be more understanding. Then the reader thinks ALL OF OUR CHILDREN ARE GENDER CONFUSED. THE WORLD'S GONE MAD.

I find it difficult to assess how much racism is prevalent given that I'm a white person. I suspect the colour of my skin would influence how much racism I am exposed to, so it would be easy for me to say that it barely exists because I don't see it.

I think to say football fans are racist is wrong. I think to say racism is creeping back into football is wrong. Racism is creeping back into mainstream society and racists are feeling empowered due to what they're seeing and hearing at political levels in the UK and across the world.

For me racism at football is akin to sectarianism.

Stupid people who want to have a pop at someone will generally go for the easiest and cheapest shot available to them. They don't have the brains, imagination or quickness of wit to do any better.

So when a hyped up ignorant tool at the football wants to vent at the opposition it is easy to go for the 'orange bassers' or the 'feenyin bassers'.

In the vast majority of cases I don't think it has an awful lot to do with deep held committed religious beliefs these days.

And similarly mentally challenged folks look at a black player in the opposition line up and its the easiest place to go to have a pop.

Just like it would be if a player was fat or bald or ugly.

Its a cheap shot more than anything else. It is intended to be a derogatory term but again I don't think in most of the cases it comes from a deeply racist place.

I think it just comes from sheer ignorance and stupidity more than anything else.

Aye "they want to ban Christmas in case it offends the Muslims" types. Even though Jesus is a prophet in the Koran. Don't know a huge number of Muslims but all the ones I do know bloody love Christmas.
