We need A keeper that much is certain.

I 100% agree with you on BPF he gets away with stuff other keepers wouldn't because he came through the youth system so we are a little more forgiving.

That's not a bad thing though, giving players a little breathing room makes then less nervous and thus can lead to better performances, however I don't think people would be as forgiving as a keeper we bought as they have been of BPF

There is a need to sign a keeper and we are on the cusp of the premiership, so we should sign a keeper better the we have

If we are aiming for a new keeper, Heaton wants to move and the villa link seems to have died down as they had another keeper going in

Forster is not playing at Southampton and is still a good keeper
Westwood at sheff wed I'd also a good shout in my opinion

However, and this one might be a little out there, the best keeper to ever play the game is currently 36 years old and not getting any game time at arsenal, green was 37 when we signed him and was the best keeper we had in years, why not see if Cech still has it

Agree with those 3 assessments.

The keeper is a must. If you don't want a new keeper you are either blind or not well.

We do need a playmaker to replace Saiz and ease the burden on Pablo.

I would consider that sufficient. Defensive cover would be an extra.

I watched the Blackburn game again. The free kick
alone was a disaster for him. I've felt he's done really
well. And I was not in the camp of "we need a new keeper."
Until now. Maybe it's his youth and inexperience?

Whatever it is, we need a senior keeper from the Prem.

I'd also like to see a CB and a pacy/scary winger. Don't
we all. A few also mentioned bringing in a 'talisman'
player. A Strachan or Cantona. Not sure those level players
are there for us?

Overall, I do hope we get a keeper. More than that,
I want to see the club make a real effort to improve
the team. Wasting this Messiah Bielsa season would
be unforgivable.

Saying that, I think in Pontus, KP, Pabs, Alioski (for
his endeavor alone), and Roofe, we have players
we can rely on for a bit of magic.

We could have quite easily been 3rd had it not been for injury time heroics and the OP is 100% right, we've been in good positions twice and thrown them both away. As well all know, there's not a reset button if we go south again and there's no garuntee we'd be in this position next season. We quite clearly need a few players, mostly for injury cover.

Dalsgaard, cracking defender at this level who wanted to leave Brentford in the summer, he played every game at the WC for Denmark, not playing at Brentford. Tom Cairney can't get a game atm. Adam Reach would be ideal to have out wide and cover for Pablo. Dack is clearly good enough at this level and would be a Saiz replacement. Just cannot see the point in risking promotion for the sake of a fee million spent in Jan. Bamford is clearly injury prone, he was before he signed for us, he still is now, where is Roberts? If he's not up to it, go and buy one ffs.

Why have Boro and Villa already signed players ready for Jan 1st? They're ran properly is the answer to that. We'll have no signings in until after the FA Cup game as that will be 2 weeks wages saved!

If ifs and ands were pots and pans....

How many titles would that red lot have won if not for goals scored after 90 minutes? Definitely would not have beaten that team from Germany in the CL Final.

Boro and Villa are desperate, panicking, that's why.

Incredible how negative we continue to be.

I suppose its just the Leeds way, eh?

Table doesn’t lie. You’re top for a reason. I’d be wary of West Brom.. Definitely gonna finish top 2 the way they’re going.
Reckon Norwich will slip away. Villa will spend, what they haven’t got too.
Still half season to go. Just need squad players really.
Enjoy it. And if they lose a couple cut them some slack.

We are in the same position as we were two years ago with Monk. We didn't invest then and the team folded. We could have had Grabban ffs. This time around, we are in a better position, with a world class coach. We also have backing from the 49'ers.
The club will always say there is no money to buy players, but we brought in Forshaw in the January window and what a good buy he has turned out to be.
We all have players we would like to bring in but we do not know who is available, how much we can raise, and what Bielsa is looking for.
It must be obvious to Radz that this is our best opportunity to get promotion. He has also seen how easily we can blow a good position through injuries, suspensions and indecision. A couple of quietly managed key transfers will be crucial for us.

I'm guessing you've all seen this?

https://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/sport/football/leeds-united/leeds-united-v-hull-city-marcelo-bielsa-unsure-if-samu-saiz-will-be-replaced-as-role-of-pablo-hernandez-is-hailed-1-9512476

Any creative midfielders look promising in the U23s?

Can Roberts play the Saiz role if Hernandes gets injured?

Kalvin Pirlo could do this job too, no?

Doesn't look like we'll be spending anyway...

No one has mentioned players leaving.
Last time we were in this position, Bates sold Howson.
Different regime with different agenda, but what happens if we are offered silly money for any of the first team players? Wood was sold, they pedalled the ‘he wanted to go bollox’ Who’s to say it won’t happen again and undermine what Bielsa is doing? Apparently, he didn’t want to sell Vieira. Just saying!

Kinnear doesn't say we are not buying. He just makes the terms clear - we look for players who are match fit, who can buy in to what LUFC is about, and who improve what we have. This says to me we are looking for players.

What a load of ballacks. Roberts is injured right now, so it has nothing to do with him being "not up to it". If you want us to sign 4 or 5 players in January (the ones you've named will come to over 20 million at the very least I would imagine) then I think your being wildly unrealistic. That sort of number isn't necessary and it isn't helpful.

Give me a good quality goalkeeper and a good quality AM/Winger and I'll be happy.

I'm very happy all the time. Should have seen me after the third goal went in at the weekend. Hugged more strangers after that than on the rest of my life combined.

Just don't accept people whinging about needing players when we are top of the league.

With kinnear’s track record of spin, we’ll re sign Malcolm Christie!

It’s a great point re BPF being homegrown and I’m probably as guilty of supporting him more because of that, but he’s not the liability people make out, if he was we quite simply would not be top.

I trust in Bielsa to know what he’s doing and needs, it’s whether the board back him the way he wants is different.

If funds were avaialbale and we spent let’s say 7 mill on a quality player there’s nothing to say they don’t get injured straight away BUT the feeling of being supported that Bielsa would have, the feeling that the club is genuinely going for promotion, the pulling together if players in that adversity could make a real difference.

I personally would rather win the war and have some planes left over than not have had enough planes, but for the first time since Wilko in his first couple of years do I trust the coach to know what he’s doing.

Ok what happens when Pablo gets injured? He's 33 after all. We're where we are only because of Bielsa and his coaching team.

No funds for another creative mid to replace Saiz at this crucial point in the season? Bielsa might conclude that our owner doesn't have a clue, etc... He has history of walking when he feels he's not being supported. Kinnear is spinning - that's not a good sign.

Pablos been injured, we’re top.

Im confident Bielsa is aware of what’s needed and what we have. He can’t invent money for the club, the club have to endure he feels as supported as possible, They have to not be complacent here but I don’t think Bielsa would quit unless really let down, he actually is resoectful if the club structure and dynamics.

BPF is a decent keeper who let's remember is only just starting out his career.

Try and remember what you were like when you first started your job and what you are like at it once you got experience and you can understand why there is stuff he still needs to improve on.

The difference for me though is quite simple, compared go some of the keepers we have had recently (and Silvesrti really sticks out in my mind here) BPF is not incompetent at what he does.

Yes he can do better, but at the end of the day he is a solid enough keeper.

My view is quite simple, there is no way we should risk not having a second keeper, and if we are bringing in a keeper you have to look at bringing in the best possible player you can, and there are more than enough keepers out there for us to be looking at signing one who is real quality

posted on 29/12/18

I get you OP, but I’d rather only sign playerscof they are the ones that Bielsa feels he needs. I wouldn’t want to sign a player just for the sake of keeping some Leeds fans happy that we’ve spent money.

Quality only please, sours fans were mortified that leve didn’t provide the cash in the summer, yeah I get that but who realistically would they sign? To improve the team I mean. They are 2nd in the premier league and if it wasn’t for Liverpools extra ordinary start they’d be too. Should they have gone for a player worth 25 million to sit on the bench?

Hindsight and all.

I remember the same argument with us lot this summer, some folk (you know who you are) complained a lot about not getting players over lines, in hindsight should we have been bent over backwards by Vydra for example?

I think Jonty nails it with this statement. Look at this situation on a risk basis. What are the risks involved?

We sign a couple of players and yes we have to get them up to the sharpness and integrated into the Bielsa style of play and it is probably going to cost top dollar. It might upset the applecart but it probably won't.

Conversely we just sign another goalkeeper and don't sign anyone hoping for likes of Brown and Bamford to become available. They never quite get fit.)Pablo gets a pulled hamstring out for 6 weeks) Roofe gets injured after they both play c15-20 games without a rest. .5-6 point gap gets eaten up as we start struggling to score and we end up on say 86 points behind a WBA side that did strengthen and Norwich who had enough to keep in front of us and we lose the play off semi. There's a big inquest and we get quotes like "hindsight is a wonderful thing and oh it was bad luck that Pablo an Roofe were injured etc".

For me the risk is far greater not to take decisive action in the transfer market and let a scenario like that play out.

Now if the cupboard is truly bare whether we want to sign someone or not and the suspicion of spin in Kinnear's comments ) that's a different story and attention points towards the boardroom again.
